That was filmed by my hunting partner with whom we offer the Russian Chukotka moose and other Asian hunts. If anyone is interested in the Markhor hunts please let me know. I will be listing them shortly.

That one that was missed at the beginning looked like a big ol' beast relative to the one finally taken. You would also think that, for the price of a Markhor hunt, you might actually get a raft made out of something other than inner tubes and roped together boards! LOL! Wink

Wish I had the dough!

The closing footage is in a different part of the world, it is a Bukharan Markhor. The hunting was on the Astor (Flarehorned) Markhor in Pakistan. The missed shot at the beginning was a magnificant trophy, the one shot, not big. But when you see the logistics of the hunt....maybe the hunter was glad, just to get one... I know this feeling....

I don't want to upset a fellow Kiwi!!!...I thought that the second one was a Pirpanjal markhor. I thought that the Bukharan markhor was from Tajikistan & quite a bit smaller....just wondering and wanting to know ....

That is off the scale of fantastic. I could watch that video three more times and be even more completely convinced that I never want to try that.
Wow!!!

Yo mate! Have we met at the NZDA club shoots? I am the only real Indian around! Big Grin

The closest i have come to shooting a Markhor was the 5 nanny tahr I got last year and of course the beautiful billy goat with 28" horns that do look like a markhor of sorts!

But seriously, the Pirpanjal markor which is the same as the Kashmir Markhor, is the most famous of the Pakistan markhor & hunted in Chital Gol which is part of the disputed Kashmir state. Here is a famous Atenborough TV clip of markhor & snow leopard taken in this region a few years ago http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORNzXIwTNC4

Never been to an NZDA shoot, maybe I should... But then everyone would know what a lousey shot I am. You may be right about the Markhor species. But the subtitle on the film is a bit of a giveaway....
I'm passionate about this species, especailly when I know I can't afford the hunt, but looking forward to tagging along on a hunt for one. I can arrange the hunts if you'd like one... Astor or Suliman.

Anyway I'll check it out a little closer when I'm over there next month, January 2011. Will be my third hunting trip to Pakistan. Cheers.

Those are incredible mountains. I hunted Ibex there and the outfitter showed me a very nice trophy Astor Markhor head, He had tried to get this animal for a number of years unsuccessfully and the winter before I went a shepherd had found this Markhor dead in the mountains after a snow storm.

Both the animals in this video are young, specially the one that was shot.

Looks like one needs to be in fantastic shape for that hunt.

Magnificent animal and mountains.

Congrats.

That was a fabulous hunting experience. Unbelievable steepness and ruggedness to the terrain. Given the money these folks are paid for this work, it makes one wonder why the cost is so high for these hunts. For sure, they earn every bit of what they are paid.

What an awesome video....he sure missed the big boy at first....still not a bad trophy for what he settled on. What an awesome team effort by the locals.

the hunter in this markhor video is my friend Ignacio from spain (we call him nacho) he was the first foreigner to have hunted Astore Markhor in Bunji Conservancy (lucky for him the total price he had to pay in those days was $40k, now astore markhor goes for minimum $110,000. all inclusive hunt) Nacho has recently hunted sindh ibex and blandford urial with me along with his friend pedro, this wonderful Markhor hunting video is edited, in reality he shot the small one first, then on the way back he wanted to try his luck for a big one but missed, that was his last day of the hunt and he dint have enough time to go searching for another big one. these are the toughest mountains in the world (they dont call em the roof top of the world for nothing) and as TrackerNZ said sometimes hunting so hard in the mountains u just wish you get ANY animal, like he experienced when he was hunting Ibex with me in Sindh Wink
