Not sure if public will be asked to participate in the program. The resident population is just absolutely out of control in the Northeast.

Hopefully the greenies in New Jersey will wake up as well to the realities of this out of control vermin.

Just think of the needed revenue if they turned it over to hunters. Guides, motels, restaurants, ammo, guns, clothing, boots/waders, calls, layout blinds...all the trimmings and plenty willing to help. We have 3 Canada seasons in TN with limits of 5 per day in Sept, but 2 per day in Oct and the regular goose season. These are giant Canada's; Canada Maxima.

"Peace is that brief glorious moment in history when everybody stands around reloading" - Thomas Jefferson

Every morning the Zebra wakes up knowing it must outrun the fastest Lion if it wants to stay alive. Every morning the Lion wakes up knowing it must outrun the slowest Zebra or it will starve. It makes no difference if you are a Zebra or a Lion; when the Sun comes up in Africa, you must wake up running......

"If you're being chased by a Lion, you don't have to be faster than the Lion, you just have to be faster than the person next to you."

Regardless of the generous daily limit during the resident season up here, it's impossible to control them by hunting alone......primarily because they stay in safe zones.

David:

Believe me, the Canadas have been out of control in NY state (and, I'm sure elsewhere in the Northeast)for decades. Small children have been terrorized by flaring ganders at park ponds -and I have seen such episodes. (I often reflected how a 12 gauge load of #2s would have solved the problem on the spot -but, of course, I would have been arrested immediately by our "politically correct" people) I can't wait to see if, in fact, Canadas (living here so long that they are qualified to vote!) will be shot on sight. Somehow, I doubt it. ( Live in a real bunnyhugger state)

I'll add that I live not to far from G.P.375; a county north....and all the liberal limits and possible financial impact are not practical here in most of the Hudson Valley due to access issues.

Although populations are high; it is a difficult sell for weekend home owners from NYC to allow any hunting on their lands.65% of all my towns land; the largest in my county by sq. mi. and the least populated by far; is owned by non-fulltime residents. Most, but not all, are very wary of anything to do with guns on their land.

It's not their fault as they have been "educated" to assume any gun = bad.

The county park has been closed many times by bacteria counts related to resident geese. One of the county employees shot all of them; and was only caught because the supervisor put in for reimbursment for a box of 12 ga.

They have hushed this up very well, and no charges were filed as it is a substaintial money maker for the county.

I wonder if a hunter could offer to cull them with an air rifle. The state will probably pay some exterminator or animal control type instead of allowing a couple hunters with air rifles to do the job. The meat could then be donated to local food banks or a soup line type charity

If your hunting dog is fat, then you aren't getting enough exercise. Smiler

I read your post with a certain measure of interest. (Your reference to Hudson Valley had caught my eye because I grew up in Putnam County -when it was strictly rural and not a "bedroom county") If you are not within the jurisdiction of any zoning board -why can't you grant shooting permission to anyone who has a valid license to hunt? (If the Feds want a duck stamp license, then so be it -although you could argue that the Canadas are New Yorkers by birth!)Smiler Just asking because I love to hear from anybody from the Harlem Valley about anything! This plus the fact that so many people think it's okay to feed them. The biggest problem with trying to shoot them in my area is the fact that they simply won't leave the ground and fly. Instead they waddle up to you expecting a meal!

22LR with SSS loads, a high quality supressor, and a good night vision scope. I believe that would be a good start.

You Rebs always want to complicate things!Smiler I'm quite sure that a 22 pistol using shorts at about 3 AM put right up against the neck will do nicely. They aren't wild, really, and love to sleep so that a good Lab could grab them but that's just another way to go. Smiler (I will probably have the NY State bunnyhuggers after me now - I live in a somewhat different place than you do nowadays)Smiler

Our resident season opened today but didn't have my duck stamp yet. Have it now and will go in the morning. Can take 15 per day, electronic calls legal, no plug needed. They keep uping the limits and wanting more killed but it just isn't happening. I sure like the thump they make when they hit the ground.

Need a good recipe for goose? Anybody got one?

Thanks and God Bless, Louis
