Thanks, boys. Big fun down there in south TX. Redheads galore down there, but I was surprised in two days of duck hunting, saw ZERO other species where we were other than mergs. I was told there were pintail, some bluebill and a chance at canvasbacks and both BW and cinammon teal, and we saw all but the cans in places on the drive headed to hunt, but none in the lagoon. Still had a blast, and not complaining. Another species off the list of 'want' and on the list of 'have'. Smiler

If we would have had rain, the puddle duck hunting in south Texas will yield, mergansers, mottled, pintail, teal, coots, mallards and canvasbacks. Lack of rain has really hurt us this year. Seems the bays are still full of redheads though. Glad you enjoyed south Texas!

Come again soon!

Another missed chance at a pile of trophy mergs and coots. Damned bad luck, that.

Thanks for the comments. Just out of curiosity, let me guess: fast food restaurant manager or TX board of tourism employee?

What the hell does it matter? I'm sharing a few pics for my fellow waterfowl enthusiasts to share, not here to pimp a hunt. Give it a rest with this and the PMs already. I don't know what you're after, but you're barking up the wrong forking tree, guy.

YOU ARE A RUDE FUCK!

I HAVE SENT YOU ONE PM.

I merely ask about your guide because I have had a less than stellar season and less than great performance out of local guides. If there was someone whose service you enjoyed and would return business to maybe you would pass it on to fellow waterfowl enthusiasts.

Unless of course you are fucking yankee prick!

Really classy there, Tex. Roll Eyes

I post pics here and on another sub-forum, and the only thing you want to know is who I hunted with and where, asking me online and via PM THREE times the same question. Hint: if I didn't answer the first time it's because I didn't care to share any info with you. I'll toss you a bone though, little doggy: I didn't pay anyone to take me out. Friends took me out.

Thank Kreist the folks I run with in south TX aren't anything like you. No wonder you're getting run off on other forums. Oh, and the guys I hunted with have been smashing limits all season. Guess you're just not very good at what you attempt to do out there.

Now I have a suggestion for you: why don't you be a good lad and leave the adults alone to talk here, and bugger off somewhere. Your stalking people here that just come to enjoy talk of hunting is tired, weak and more, is just plain weird.

Roll Eyes

Get a life already, loser.

"Oh, and the guys I hunted with have been smashing limits all season."

What kind of limits, I saw by the pictures you posted that the limits you participated in are limits of Red Heads (2 ducks). We usually consider a limit six ducks. You didn't perchance go out morning and evening and shoot double limits did you? I find a lot of yankees suggesting that I take them twice in a day.

Nice looking pictures though.

Not starting anything, just curious as to what is so out of line with the above comment.

From what I have seen with my own hunts this year and reports I have read on other forums, things have been out of the ordinary this year in Texas because of the drought

What happened to the pics???

Back in the day (mid 70's) used to hunt in Aransas Pass area near Ingleside. Never seen so many redheads, but back then I think the limit was 1 or might have even been 0.

So why all the hate on the guide question??

CHC,

Nothing at all. That post in and of itself seemed pretty innocuous, but I began to get suspicious after having the poster ask me several times about my 'guides', and asking other questions that made me think his 'interest' went beyond that which a mildly interested fellow waterfowler might be curious about.

Man, AR used to only have a few pimps here (members for the sole purpose of selling hunts). Now the place is loaded with them.

I'm just a duck hunter, and I've nothing for sale....

I will send info to any and all that request it by PM. There is always the fence. It is the middle of two sides of any given story. My side, the other side, and the truth. You be the judge.

I merely asked due to having a relatively poor season and not a whole lot of great service out of local guides.

I am a rifleman. The world of shotgunning is still pretty much a novelty to me.

Once again I thought wrong. I thought those folks willing to share their hunting success would be enthusiastic about helping others with the same interest. I have to remember I am in the south. There seems to be some northerners still harbor ill will towards those of us in the south. It is a pity.

Say, Tex, I realize we're from different places, but here, most folks' idea of a friendly, proper response to a forum post begins with little courtesies like a 'hello' before asking pointed questions.

"KG, How far into south Texas did you venture?"
was the entire content of your post. I don't know you from Adam, you're asking me where I was hunting and expect me to just start responding like I'm obligated to tell you where I was.

Then you let me know you ask because of some accusations, finger pointing or some shyt over paid hunts. And I'm supposed to what? Oh yeah, start answering more questions, right?

Meanwhile, some other shythead is talking about how all we 'evil Yankee types are prone to poachin' y'alls ducks, killing DOUBLE LIMITS and whatnot!' Sheeit.

lol. Whatever, man.

Yeah, it's clearly *me* that's crazy and rude...

Overlay your home state onto Texas and you will see the area know to Texans as "south Texas" covers almost as much expanse as your entire home state.
For us it is a rather broad term.

It was not too difficult to triangulate from your pictures where you were hunting. There are only so many places where the debris, the causeway and the overpass come together that would be close to a power plant and that specific a water tower....

Remember in your PM when you asked "how my day was going"?

I assumed you had been reading the lies and smear tactics presented by someone of questionable character in another forum.

Guess I thought wrong there too.

I did mention a plan to use an outfitter posting hunts in that section. Didn't think that was pimping a hunt or service.

A simple "I hunted with friends" would have been sufficient. How hard would that have been?

I have no dog in this fight, but, this statement
quote:
The world of shotgunning is still pretty much a novelty to me.
, from what I have noticed over the time I have been on the various forums does not earn a person much, especially when it comes to duck hunters and gleaning information about where they are finging birds.

This is not an indictment against KG, because I am a duck hunter myself, but, I hunt private land. Hunter that hunt Public Areas anywhere are protective of that information and I don't blame them.

Lots of folks just lurk on these sites trying to glean information on places to hunt. As was said it don't take much information or a couple of good pictures to figure out where someone was killing birds. Too many waterfowlers work really hard finding productive spots on public waters, only to have the info leak out and then that area is known to everyone.

Some sites will even ban Lake Namers. While it may seem rude, waterfowlers are different, Public water hunters even more so, and they are pretty zealous about guarding their honey holes.

And this is one of the reasons hunting as a past time is decreasing popularity.

Too many selfish people. I am going to lump all of them into one category and say they are the first to cry foul(no pun intended)when their favorite sport is threatened due to lack of upcoming individuals interested.

If you don't want to promote the activity don't post!

I have never, ever withheld info on where I hunt or who I hunt with(unless that individual requested to remain anonymous) because I know the more interest there is, the more products will be sold. The more products sold, more money will be available for conservation efforts from taxes such as Pittman-Robertson.
The more conservation the more ducks, fish, and other wildlife will be available to continue the process.

Folks interested that enjoy hunting, target shooting, and/or fishing need to seriously start thinking about someone other than themselves.

Not really disagreeing with what you say, becaue when I first got started on the forums I thought much the same you way you do. In fact I basically stated some of the same sentiments you did above.

Not meaning to highjack this thread so far off topic, but just trying to give some food for thought. I started hunting in 1968 in very rural north central Texas. My Dad knew practically everyone in Young county and they knew him. Hunting was not the business it is today, anf people were not like they are today.

People respected the land and each other. That all started changing as more people from the cities moved into rural areas, and as more people from the rural areas moved into the cities. Ideas/attitudes/manners changed, places that used to be available for hunting and fihing were suddenly closed to all but select individuals because the land owners got tired of finding their places trashed out, people they did not know driving all over the place and not staying on the existing roads, leaving gates open or shutting gates that should not be and thev list goes on.

Then deer hunting became a big industry and land owner realized they could make money and also control what was happening on their property to a certain extent.

One thing that meant however was that more folks were either forced out of hunting/fishing or forced to utilize Public Land. Any of that Public Land within reasonable driving distance suddenly was innundated with sportsmen looking for a place to hunt.

Anyone that worked at it would and did find game on those places. But for every one that worked/works at it, there are several, "Barney's" out there that won't put forth the effort to find the good spots, but will do everything they can to figure out where the successful people are hunting, that includes lurking on the various cites.

When a person has access to private land/waters for there hunting, it is hard to understand that a person hunting Public Land/Water wants to be protecrive of their spots. They can't shut the gate and lock the lock, they have to be secretive/closed mouthed, because many of them have been burned because they took someone they thought they could trust or casually mentioned something to a friend who accidentally said something to another "friend".

Believe me I wished things were not that way, but they are and as long as humans are human they are nit going to change.

Tacit understanding among fowlers: don't ask where I'm hunting other than general vicinity, especially if you don't know me. It's not a secret, it's a hard earned spot from scouting or local knowledge.

I don't hunt a single private duck spot.....they're all public, and I respect the hell out of spots shown to me by my buddies.

You haven't hunted enough if you haven't gotten into nasty arguments with other hunters that have a total disregard for our brethren. Lots and lots of idiots out there. I could go on and on and on about encounters in the field that would boggle your mind.......

Yes, I do. Guess you've never heard of sarcasm. I was like, 'oh, and how are you today?', as in, WTF, can I get an introduction and a hello before you start grilling me? I guess that went right over your head.

Yes, you did.

With the kind of behavior exhibited by the myriad hunt hawkers here now, anyone I don't know from here or otherwise is suspect when before saying 'hello' starts asking me who I hunted with and where.

quote:

A simple "I hunted with friends" would have been sufficient. How hard would that have been?

Had you asked the right way, as in, with a modicum of respect and maybe a tone of friendly curiosity, I'd have answered without hesitation. Why don't you read back a few years of posts I've made. I've bent backwards to help fellow hunters, and always will.

I've taken AR members who I've never met before into my home, and set them up to kill birds. Have never and would never dream of charging a fellow bird nut a nickle.

But not those who slide up as you did, without so much as a 'hi there'. Those I will always tell to go pound sand. Clearer now?

Also, when you say this kind of stuff:

"I am doing well despite the personal attacks upon my character by someone in the outfitter/hunts offered forum."

"I had my immature spoony mounted and he looks awesome."

"Heck, one day between the three of us we took 15 different species!"

"I got one at nearly 80yds with a 10ga!"

...I get suspicious.

I have bothered with this response for one reason, and one reason only: to make sure some of the other folks here, many I respect and whose posts I enjoy reading, don't think I just wound up and blasted off on you for no reason.

I am now done with this thread. Good day, sir.

Wait, so you KNEW YET YOU STILL ASKED ME WHERE I WAS HUNTING?

I guess that seals it, then, and my instincts were dead on. You're a no good, dishonest fucking piss-ant troll with no genuine interest in hunting without ulterior motives.

And to the other dickhead: you still on your moral high horse, talking about how we damn Yankees are ruining your hunting? Unreal. We do certainly have our share of scumbags here in New England. No getting around that, and it's a fact. Thanks for proving to us all that Texas has its share too. Fucking disgraces, the both of you.

Ignore function ON.

Thats too bad Gari.

I thought this crap was over too until someone else posted and stirred up the shit again.

I didn't know at first, although it did look awfully familiar. I never asked specifically where you hunted other than to clarify "south Texas". There are redheads everywhere down here. Rockport, Brownsville, Port Aransas, Matagorda, Aransas Pass, Baffin Bay, Laguna Madre. Only after you said you were in Corpus was I able to put two and two together.

Your instincts were wrong sir.

I guess I can be a little course at times.

Not that it matters, but I have hunted and target shot with and would readily accept character references from the following: CamomanJ, JeffeOsso, GatoGordo, Geedubya, Rusty, DirtyJim, Robgunbuilder, Jimatcat, MichaelJ, TiggerTate, Lee440, Hog Killer, Invader66 and many others here on AR.

"A no good, dishonest fucking piss-ant troll with no genuine interest in hunting without ulterior motives".................

Couldn't be farther from the truth. I hunt to support conservation. Lord knows beef is much cheaper than fowl or venison. I love being outdoors. I buy both fishing and hunting license(SuperCombo) and all the different and applicable stamps I can every year since 1986. Well I did forget to get a crane permit this year. I have participated in numerous doe culls and give the meat to charity. I taught one of my neighbors kids how to stretch barbwire to mend a fence that we accidently shot through while sighting in his rifle on his ranch. I did a lot of free work to EARN the priviledge of hunting their property, and make certain it is in better shape than when I arrived. Many times that means I spend all my time fixin' stuff and no time hunting.

I generally tip my guides 30% or better.

I said it before. I'll say it again.

Kamo Gari...glad you were able get the birds you were after. Glad you enjoyed south Texas. Come back anytime!

I'd like to amend my previous descriptive insult to you, in light of your words, if you have no objection, sir: Please add the words "nutty as a shythouse rat, like really seriously crazy bastard too" at the tail end of the other stuff.

Cheers,

KG

Many thanks
