So is this a recognition that policy trumps (pun intended) the law, or is it an acknowledgement that much of this was probably oversold and that they should not have gone down the road?

"Oversold" is quite a reach when describing a law-fare campaign to affect the Presidential election.

Point of fact. Biden isn’t my guy. I wouldn’t have voted for him and I didn’t vote for Harris- or Trump. As far as I’m concerned both of them should have been prosecuted for mishandling/theft of top secret government material. Biden, as a senator nor Trump as an EX President had a right to do that. And that doesn’t even take into account that the documents were left laying around for anyone to read. Trump had the right to keep them securely until he left office. At that point, he lost that right. End of the day, he is a lying thief (among other things)and Biden is a senile old fool. Dog shit or cat shit and flush your moral values down the toilet. popcorn

The DOJ policy is that it's unconstitutional to prosecute a sitting president.

Smith had no choice other than to dismiss the cases "without prejudice".

Don't worry Lane. All your questions and spin will be answered in Jack Smith's report, which will be published for all to see.

And BTW, the OP title is incorrect. The charges were not "dropped". Instead, the cases were dismissed without prejudice. That means theoretically they could be re-opened when he leaves office.

And also theoretically, since this has never been tested, the statute of limitations is suspended while Trump is in office. Since we have never had a POTUS before who is a convicted felon or one who has also been indicted for multiple other felonies, this is precedence setting.

The DOJ says that the prosecutions of the co-defendants will proceed. We will see how that goes.

It's kinda ironic that we have a POTUS elect who couldn't get a security clearance in normal circumstances.

Trump is going to burn all his political capital. The only way JD gets a chance is if Trump leaves office early for some reason. Except, Trump and Team might find a way to keep their promise that we will never have to bother voting again.

And Jack Smith is going to resign before Jan 20. So Trump won't get the pleasure of firing him.

It is possible, maybe probable, that Jack Smith may be recorded in history as the last DOJ special prosecutor who had any respect for the rule of law.

The only path that can happen is for Trump, Bannon, Flynn, Heritage Foundation, etc., to succeed in bringing it all down. That's possible.

Trump is the chaos POTUS. It's difficult to predict. But it's not difficult to see what the plan is. We just don't know when or if the burn out will happen and the extent of the backlash. It could be all whiplash. So far it looks like the latter. JD could ride the whiplash and help produce it all the way to the WH in 2028 and be there for 8 years. That's the plan anyway. Reflection??? Of course.

I haven't changed my mind one notch about the false equivalences you deem as support for belief there's two tiers justice, and the belief that Trump was persecuted with weaponized law, and that DOJ's decision to not prosecute HRC was politically motivated, and your belief/justification in tit for tat.

The facts and evidence do not support your "feelings" and associated beliefs, not to mention morals.

You obviously didn't read the link to the Presidential Records act.

And in an election of this importance, sitting on your hands isn't really a choice. Not voting for either is simply allowing the other side more support.

If you hated Trump so bad, your sitting it out (or writing someone in) falls short of having your say in an American election. Same if Harris scares you.

My vote for Trump, is my protest against the continuation of a socialist agenda, open borders, reckless government, endless wars for the war-pigs, removal of girls privacy, disfiguring minor children without their parents even being notified, higher fuel prices, immigrant crime, and certain escalation in Ukraine to invoke both American troops and possible Russian Nuclear escalation.

Your sitting on your hands tells me you're ok with all that.

And before you say "He's an insurrectionist" If I had to choose between the two, I'd still vote for him. And I don't believe the insurrection BS. If he was, they'd have charged him with such.

American greatness won, A declining America lost.

What you voted for, Steve, is consistent with Rightist fixation fantasy with incompetent celebrities, and the incompetence they brew, and validation of a bunch of strategic lies, and of course fear, failure to sort truth from fiction, and carta blanche to a criminal to commit more crimes with immunity.

And you are claiming that you voted for greatness!!!

The real decline in the country is the fomenting and exploiting the belief system that got Trump elected.

How is it possible to achieve "greatness" in its positive meaning, with the voluntary transition through vote to an authoritarian form of Govt, supplanting the Founder's Gift? What you did was morph the "Gift" into grift.

you might print this out and share with your therapist - THIS is explicitly why you aren't taken seriously - same crime, same time -- you literally can't make value judgements based on the actual facts, jerry --

dang, i need to make a shifty schiff animated meme whining 'jerry, jerry" ..

More bullsh!t. If it was up to me, I would have prosecuted BOTH of them. Of course, one of them truly had a diminished capacity defense and the other is just a common criminal. For someone who claimed to not support Trump, you have interesting points of view. Senile CIC or criminal CIC…. What a choice.

Jerry -- seriously, print this out and take it to your therapist -- you LITERALLY call the same type of crimes to be different outcomes, based on some internal factor, and then you try to project your behavior onto others

as for biden's diminished capacity, which was ATTEMPTED to be covered up by the dems, is unlikely to come into play - for, you see, well, you won't, but there's the 25th amendment - which raises the logically fallacy that a person could be capable of sending troops and bombs anywhere in the world, but can't be culpable for illegal actions taken, extending for decades, due to CURRENT reduced capacity --

thought Hur agrees with you

if you can't see being fair and using the same measurements as being non-partisan, well, i have nothing to offer to convince you that same crime, same time is actually fair--

i guess supporting maths is somehow a trump supporter in your book .. idk what turn in life got you to thinking that demanding 2+2=4 in all cases is support of trump, but you might reflect on what and where you felt okay with this, and regress a bit, for mental clarity -

do you also stick your fingers in your ears and scream "nah nah nah"?? uhm, sweetheart, the internet might not be for you

the amount of delusion that thinking you READING his post, then "declaring" that you are ignoring it ... oh, honey, booboo, you might not have the intestinal fortitude to carry on the good fight .... do you have your crochet kitty hat on? is it helping?

Yes, I declare that I ignored his post. That means I refused to take what he said into account, and I refuse to engage in debate with him or his points.

OTOH, you for example, I'm partially ignoring your posts. You LOVE making it personal. That's your troll trick. It's a distraction with less than zero meaning or use. Of course, it's a reflection upon you entirely and your credibility and ability to contribute. I'll just let you posts speak for themselves. I find them amusing, but useless.

You summed your post nicely. "American greatness won, A declining America lost."

If addressing your summary conclusion is Straw Man, then the conclusion is as well.

How about you addressing the specifics within my post?

Do you subscribe to American exceptionalism.?

It is possible.

We shall see.

Recipe for non-stop political warfare': Jamie Raskin denounces Trump DOJ Plans

You & LHeym500 are far too polite to these guys. They are truly fucking nuts.

There is no need for me to be rude.

IMO, practically everything about Trump(ism) and his supporters speaks for themselves. All I need to do is keep pointing it out.

For example, just look at the cast of characters that crawl out and into Trump's administration and orbit. It's been that way from the beginning, and they just keep getting creepier and more transparent, more corrupt and more incompetent (if that's possible). Many have been recycled after serving time such as Steve Bannon.

I'm actually just as much worried about the backfire as much as Trump's fire. But there is some solace. With Trump's win we were spared a much worse repeat of Jan 6 and before and after events, and more Big Lie. The Dems did their normal and constitutionally respectful thing with the peaceful transition and all, even though Trump is not cooperating. He knows everything. He's even having trouble with ethics already, refusing to sign ethics papers and agreements per law. Here's a man who couldn't qualify for a security clearance, per existing rules, who will be inaugurated.

It's so bizarre that one would think conservatives will eventually notice.
