Putin wants a return of imperial power for Russia.

Most of the issues in eastern Ukraine probably have their roots in Russia and the kleptocracy that was the hallmark of Soviet administration.

Ukraine also has more than its share of corruption. They certainly are not fully on the side of angels there… but they were invaded and the rationale for it was territorial expansion and control. Sure, Russia has some reasons for their concern regarding not wanting strong forces on their borders, but they are also one of the few nations that engaged in wars of territorial expansion in the 20th century that did not suffer a consequence for doing so.

I do feel we should be helping Ukraine… but just handing them money ain’t it.

I also don’t feel that helping targeting in Russia is a good idea. That strikes me too much like an act of war on our part.

Selling weapons or giving weapons with some sort of verification of not being used for corrupt purposes is reasonable.

Having the Europeans be principally financially responsible for the aid is also reasonable.

Having us trying to play the mediator and damaging the attempts by our allies is not in our best interests. Letting Putin be rewarded for a war of aggression is certainly not in our interests.

Trump is not really making a lot of sense in this particular situation to me. While I agree that we need to take a step back from being the world’s policeman and we can’t afford that role, it doesn’t mean aiding the aggressor side.

I don't know if Trump really believed and was sincere about ending the war in a day.

I doubt it. The allusion was that he had special connection with Putin. Although that seems to be true, we see how that turned out.

But if he really believed, it just shows another example of delusion.

If he was sincere, as in telling the truth from his delusional perspective, then is sincerity one of his virtues?

Like everything else with him, it was just campaign BS, lies. The choices are he's delusional, a liar, or both and more.

His motive? His ego wanted the Nobel prize so he could say he earned it. He's jealous of Obama.

And he was played like a dumbass by Putin.

Trump didn't solve a damn thing. He prolonged the situation, assisted Putin, and cost many lives. This didn't start after the election. GOPers have been explicit in it for a long time.

It's gross.
