Something that shouldn't be political but always is.

I have not had time to look at any events yet though it's just starting. I generally enjoy the equestrian and gymnastic events the most.

Once again offensive political stunts are being displayed which to me take quite away from the spirit of the games. I was made aware on social media of a mockery of the Last Supper. I really don't understand what the point of offending so many people will accomplish?

The Olympics were ruined for me long ago when they started adding all these new sports in and pushing a lot of the old ones out. Not if what they added are not even sports but more like activities.

There have also been good additions over the years. Rugby was one of them. Wisely the chose 7’s as it is more appealing to the audience rather than 15’s which would take weeks to play out.

I think the final straw this cycle was choosing a non athlete to carry the torch. A rapper? Really?

I find it hilarious that American conservatives are butthurt over LGBT performance art that references a painting by a guy who was probably homosexual.

In France.

I remember a time when the Olympics were very popular and inspiring. That's all gone thanks to politicizing the games. Really sad.

I remember in the 70’s and 80’s when the Olympics has us hanging on the edges of our seats.

They have been politicized for as long as I have watched them (65 yrs), and I know they were politicized well before then. Takes away from the competition, in many respects, and I'm not enthralled with the spectacle of a bunch of fruits playing dress-up, but there it is. Bill

. . . some of you just walk around looking for things to be offended over. Usually it has to do with anything pertaining to change. Get some creme or ointment and get over the persistent butt hurt already.

The comment about the 1936 games was going to be my initial response. Yeah, the games have only had a political dimension for just the last . . . 90 years or so. And it probably goes back much further we just remember the 1936 games since they were in Germany.

I must admit, I think the part of the ceremony being referenced was stupid, foolish and hypocritical.

The things that struck me. It was a mockery of an important religious event that gos back further than a painting.
Why is that wrong? For response Would it be acceptable to mock any other religion in that way at an international event?

Nudity. Would it be acceptable to have straight men dancing nude at such an event?

It looked to me like the trans community was given free reign, and they felt it was acceptable to hit out at a section of the world they dont like.
That its been pulled from circulation and they are trying to stop the footage being reused means that belatedly they have realised how fucking stupid it was.

I hung onto my Dish network box last year specifically to watch football. I said to myself that maybe this year I would catch a few games and even the Superbowl! Yehaw!

I think I turned on the tv most Sundays, found a game and went with it. I noticed at the end of every day it was on I didn't know who won, what the game was like or sometimes who was playing.

Snort, I won't be doing that again.

So here comes the Olympics. We have to have the Stand for the Anthem controversy, the made up cartoon silliness of the new, "sports", the idea that sports are supposed to be watched on the TV while sitting my fat ass on the sofa, and it's the middle of summer in Alaska! I think I'll pass and bigly.

Oh, the fat hairy dude tranny's wanna parody The Last Supper? Pass, hard pass.

They're going to need to think of something different if they want my support and sponsorship.

Yep well its just, like many things right now, Unnecessary.
The trans community has top realise that if they want to be treated as adult parts of society, then they have to behave responsibly as adults.
Nothing in your identity means you have a right too flash your nuts or fanny at a live international event. Thats teenage behaviour right there.
Im not a prude, and have been to batchelor parties etc where nudity was expected or probable. But the thing is, everyone there was Adult, and there knowing what was likely to happen. And if they didnt like it, had the option not to be present.
And if we live in a world that expects us to respect all religions, and non religious. Then we better bloody well expect it from everyone. No free passes for your favourite minority.

What does such a display have to do with the subject of Olympic games? I will answer for you. Nothing. It was unnecessary and crude and it was meant to insult a lot of people. Wrong in my book.

But the official X account for the Olympic Games shared photos of the moment and referenced the Greek god Dionysus, not “The Last Supper.”

“The interpretation of the Greek God Dionysus makes us aware of the absurdity of violence between human beings,” read a tweet captioning the photos.

A Greek god, from at least a thousand years before the "Christian" era, from Greece. You know, where the Olympics originated...

One of Zeus' kids. Known to the Romans as Bacchus. God of wine, vegetation, fertility, festivity, ritual madness, religious ecstasy, and theatre.

Saw an interesting article about Israel's plans to protect its athletes, and they have good precedent for doing so. But one thing I wonder about is a country hosting the Olympics allowing security details from other countries to provide security for their athletes. Sounds like a logistical nightmare.
