So called blue laws were common in the South back in the 50’s, 60’s and early 70’s. Almost no businesses were open on Sunday. Thankfully that bullshit is long gone in most states and counties . When I was a kid, my father allowed no hunting or fishing on Sunday. It was God’s day of rest. That changed to after I went off to college in 1966. When I lived in Ohio, there was a law against hunting on Sunday. I quit wrestling and football in school because Saturday was the only day I could hunt. My choice was made easier by a lack of ability in either sport. | |||

I was shocked when we went shopping in Houston, Texas in the 80's. We bought some groceries and some pots to cook in. It was Sunday. They let us buy the groceries, but not the pots!! | |||

Yep, we rolled back almost all the "blue laws" in about 1984-86 in Texas, except for some booze related ones. Still can't buy liquor in Texas on Sundays. Up until 2021, beer or wine wasn't for sale until noon. 10 am now. You can buy beer or wine before church instead of after. Bizarre. | |||

Some farmers still don’t work on Sundays. Particularly Amish and Mennonite. Find it funny when yall determine when someone takes a day off work as tyranny. You’ve got more opinions than sense. | |||

In Canada, in the late sixties, sunday shopping was largely unheard of. In Idaho, at the same time, it was more common. The Americanization of Canada soon had everything leveled out. I can't say whether that was good or bad. My suspicion is that the "day of rest" was a good thing and we have gained little from its demise. Regards, Bill. | |||

You couldn't buy beer here on Sunday when I moved to CO, well other than growlers to go from micro-brews....hard to get dumber than that. Want to rest and and have a day free of work and booze on Sundays? Have at it, just leave me out of it. I have my own plans thanks. I'm not so sure our government should bring me Jesus, if I want him I can find him, there is a sign on every corner.  | |||

Well before you fluff your pillow Saturday evening, go by the liquor store and buy yourself a half rack. You gotta work Monday so try to moderate some after 8pm Sunday night. While down in Mexico on the pacific coast, my older brother and I gently, respectfully and diplomatically slipped our way out of a rural minimart full of getting drunk Mexicans looking to rough up some Gringos. After we got a few miles down the road my brother says to me, "did i forget to mention that Sunday is Mexican Get Drunk and Start a Fight Day?" Saturday here in Dillingham is Sabbath for the Adventist church. That means no work, no talk about work, no planning for work until sundown Saturday night. Sunday here in Dillingham is the Russian Orthodox Sabbath and for the old time Russian believers it is like the Mexicans, get drunk and fight Day. Our liquor store is closed on Sunday as is our bars. We don't play school sports on Sunday and horror beyond horror, our merchants frequently close early or for the entire day! for stupid religious holidays like Christmas, Easter and even July 4th!  Somehow thru it all, despite the tyrannical imposition of both public and private prohibition, salmon get caught, moose get shot and after todays socialist holiday work, commerce and the occasional profit will resume tomorrow. You all are my friends. If you fellows that seem to be victimized by Sunday laws need assistance navigating your lives and schedules around these pernicious infringements of your liberties let me know, I'm here to help.
