Probably some of the more competent employees are out of there. They're more marketable for other jobs.

So the person quoted is upset that they got rid of diversity programs and doesn't like that the politician from the opposing party won. She wants to move overseas...

Well, I guess that 9 months of salary and benefits last a while.

Isn't this a voluntary buyout?

I would guess that a lot of senior folks close to retirement might grab this. There could well be some institutional memory loss and loss of more experienced folks.

More power to him if this is getting rid of dead wood. However, the unions objecting seems a bit odd- voluntary 9 month separation packages are pretty generous.

I suppose the best reason to take this is if you know you can get a near compatible job without any trouble... make 6 months pay for nothing (assuming it takes 3 months to get into the new position).

We all know that the government is full of redundancies. USAID and the state department for giving out foreign aid as an example.

HHS and DoEd as another.

Heck, from my area, NIH and the CDC.

Get rid of half the administrative overhead and increase the grants... sounds like a winning idea if Trump can do it without bad favoritism.

that's nearly 100 BILLION saved over 10 years (because that's the unit of measure in budget talks)

good start --

That's OUTSTANDING news - as innovation and competition aren't hallmarks of government employees - they will see just how they stack up against the wolves in the free market

buena suerte

Where is the money for these buyouts coming from? The Constitution says that Congress has all power to appropriate money and direct the Executive on how it is spent, and none has been appropriated for buyouts.

by your "logic" the executive is REQUIRED to spend all funds-- trump is offering to pay them through 9/30 -- which exactly covers the fiscal year --

let me know if you need help with any other deep questions
such as
how much dirt is there in a hole of ANY dimensions
is water wet
or, fan favorite, why, when i trip, do i fall DOWN 100% of the time ...

these are life's little mysteries

Has anyone noticed that over time good paying skilled jobs, with benefits such as co-contributing retirement plans and health insurance, generous vacation and sick leave with pay, all protected with employment agreement or contract, have practically vanished.

One remaining such place is in fed govt. I don't know about State, but municipal govts got rid of some if not all such benefits. GOPers talk about loyalists, but govt employment isn't as attractive as it used to be, especially Trump's new version. Lots of BS, short term employment, at will termination, little long-term incentive.

In Corp America, such benefits have migrated to the top.

It's a function of shareholder bottom line for corps and the fiscal budget for govt.

I believe this is an indirect result of GOPer ideology slowly eating the bottom rung of society and working up the ladder. Yet GOPers want to squeeze more.

We all like benefits, but gov benefits come directly from taxpayers money so there has to be some accountability and that accountability seems not being there…attitude of fed employees, unfriendliness and I can keep going
Here in The West, it is Forest service, BLM, USPS mainly
Attitude city and mostly no help when asked, but not all of course

Unions object to anything which reduces their membership and the amount of money coming in. Union leadership counts on those dues to finance their lavish lifestyle.
Getting a comparable job might be a little tough. Not that many jobs that offer a decent pay and benefit package for doing sweet eff-all. Bill

A big boo-boo was allowing unionization of government employees.
In the old days, government jobs meant stability, relatively low wages, and a livable retirement.
By now, there is a reason why Loudon County VA has a median income three times the rest of the country.
