Okay, I realize my "perception" is bias.

It's as close to fact as possible that for practically ALL Trump supporters he has the ability to demonstrate, or at least cause the perception of control.

It's disturbing for several reasons but mostly because it's an act, a reality show crisis actor, a front man, bolstering his act with bluster, lies, nonsense.

Let's not get all doomy about this.

The Dems will figure it out.

It is not about your perception. Trump can lie all he wants as long as President Biden demonstrates an inability to present control, to physically refute Trump the lies win.

Look at the debates here. So many do not understand nor care that Trump instigated a Right Wing mob to violence. They do not care not nor understand that the Chief Executive and Commander in Chief permitted violence upon or constitutional system to keep power. They do not care nor understand he mused at the hanging of his VP. They do not care nor understand that his policy that should damn him from office and public trust to keep power he had no right to is paramount son the Founders envisioned.

They only care about which one of the two can demonstrate control of the other, control of the moment. The die has been cast. President Biden could not demonstrate that control, could not make the argument to rebut Trumpism. President Biden’s continued presence in this race is to the empowerment of Trumpism/MAGA.

This is July. The elec is in November. President Biden and his closest companions should have never let it got to this moment.

President Biden cannot make the argument.
This is a 12 round bout tied on the cars. President Biden just gave away the 8th round.

The campaign, surrogates, nor anyone else can make the argument. The candidate has to make the argument. The people are choosing a person not sumo much anything else. Remember Kennedy won bc Nixon was sweating on black and white tv.

I agree with you it is too late. That is the problem.

Biden has made the "argument" as you call it. He makes it in his speeches. The so called "debate" not so well.

I think dems will face reality and know that it's too late to replace Joe. Thus they will rally.

All the issues are still present. Trumpism is still what it is. Trump is and always will be a magnificent liar.

Biden is going to have a huge challenge convincing the public that he is in good enough physical and mental shape to run the country for four more years, the debate was a disaster pure and simple.

That does not make Trump acceptable to me but the fact is, Biden looked scary old in the debate.

I think it's a fact that the next election, for POTUS and the trickle-down ballots, will be a referendum on Trump/Trumpism.

Dems will rally on that point any way they can, and IMO appropriately. There is a lot to work with therein.

I think Trump is a gift horse to dems, unintentionally of course.

(Note: I posted this previously but deleted it, then posted again. The reason is because the video link was giving trouble when I tested it from the post. Now it should be ok.)

What are the options?

I for one will not give up on Biden. He's done a good job and is capable of continuing and probably will do even better in a second term.

I don't think the democrat party will give up on him either. We are going to see something good, perhaps unexpected from this.

That's my prediction.

Here's a good video commentary:

There was no substance to this 'debate'. It was devoid of interplay regarding proposed solutions to real problems.
An actual debate might involve discussing issues and contrasting approaches to solving them. This did not occur.
Trump believes his own lies, and Biden can't remember any of his own. They aren't living in reality.
If they cannot tell real from imaginary from talking points, they cannot lead.

It is our good fortune to have three branches of government with countervailing powers.
Even so, we get the government we deserve. We can still mess this up...
