Illiberalism best describes GOPerism nowadays, although the term may be archaic. I don't just make this shit up.

You have got to be f***ing kidding me!

Exchange GOP for Dem and you have it correct.

Illiberalism (a governing system that hides its "nondemocratic practices behind formally democratic institutions and procedures) just about exactly describes the 21st century Democratic Party.

The best examples of illiberalism I can think of are all the things Trump did regarding staying in office despite losing the vote. All those fake electors, the riot and invasion of the Capitol on 1/6, the push to get Pence to stall so GOPers in congress could do their dirty deed. Lying about voter fraud. And project 2025 is a solid example too. The lies about weaponization of the rule of law is illiberal too. Christian Nationalists want to conflate church and state - that's illiberal.

How can liberals be illiberal?

OK, I should have stated the definition of illiberalism exactly describes the 21st century Democratic Party.

Funny thing - for 2020 repugs didn't adopt a new platform. they basically said -- whatever Trump wants, which as evidence shows, in part, damn the election results and the rule of law - weaponize those principles as necessary, lie and project to boot.

Now GOPers have basically adopted project 2025, a fascist manifesto, as their platform. Again, it's whatever Trump wants, but intentionally sketchy and vague, details filled in with project 2025.

There's no comparison from the left.

Let's change the archaic definition of illiberalism to fit the GOPer situation now:

Illiberalism: A far-right wannabe governing system following a well-developed and well-funded far-reaching written playbook that uses (co-opts by initial necessity) democratic institutions/practices/procedures to gain power with the specific intent to corrupt those institutions/practices/procedures to purposely retain and increase power to perpetually dominate every aspect of the governing system, while still pretending to support democracy.

Here's an example of illiberalism and weaponization and lawfare:

Donald Trump Trashes Republicans After Amendment Loses by 'Only One Vote'
Published Jul 13, 2024 at 4:58 AM EDT

Donald Trump has lashed out at several Republican congressmen after an amendment to defund criminal prosecutions of the former president failed by "only one vote."

In a post on Truth Social he attacked Idaho Rep. Mike Simpson after he "stupidly" voted "no" on the amendment that would have prohibited the use of federal and state funding for the prosecution of any presidential candidate prior to November's election.

The amendments to the Commerce, Justice, Science, and Related Agencies (CJS) Appropriations Bill, introduced by Georgia Rep. Andrew Clyde, failed to pass by a vote of 25-26.

Trump also blamed House Republicans on the Appropriations Committee who did not show up to vote on the amendment.

ME - I believe you are a good and kind person. I am sure I could enjoy lining for flatheads with you and learn a lot from your experience.

But you are so far out there with your politics I really can’t even wrap my head around your thought processes. Hence, this is one of those times.

This definition fits precisely to the 21st century Democratic Party by its acts. What else can I say???

Yes, you HATE President Trump. I got that memo.

You people sure have things spun around in your heads. I didn't know that the kind of shit that you believe could even be made up.

I'm convinced, been so for some time, that you are hopelessly twisted.

The only good thing about that situation is like comparing it to a walk in the woods, especially near water, and especially with a dog, is that there are snakes and alligators lurking. Best to be aware and careful.

That's BTW why I quit posting elsewhere, especially on classified. It's wise to remain anonymous.

Hillary was right in so many ways.

Unfortunately, she underestimated the crazies, or they multiplied, or both.

That's the way fascism creeps. It's like bad health - first there are the slow symptoms, then suddenly welcome to the floor. We haven't reached bottom yet, but we can see the abyss from here.
