The suspect accused of plowing a pickup truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing 10 and injuring at least 30 on New Year’s Day, is named Shamsud Din Jabbar, according to a law enforcement source, Nola.com reported.

The outlet also reported the suspect is 42 years old and that he was carrying an Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) flag in the vehicle.

Police shot and killed him after the attack.

The attack occurred around 3:15 a.m.

FBI Assistant Special Agent in Charge Aletha Duncan first said the attack was not a “terrorist event.”

An American veteran and citizen!

Flying the ISIS flag!

Someone should wake up Cheney and Chimpy and ask them why they created ISIS?

ISIS murdered thousands of people in the Middle East.

Now they have turned to America!

So so sad to see innocent people paying the price for political adventurism!

Apparently, he had made pro ISIS videos. Without red flag laws and w free speech what is anyone to do until he engages in an overt action to bring violence.

Our laws are largely designed (epos/dvos being somewhat an exception they still require a civil finding of violence or threats of occurring) to punish the bad that happens, and not to prevent it.

The man had exited the military when he made these videos, I am not sure what avenue to legally intercept, arrest and charge him would have been available.

I am going to take a pass on US military intervention being the net cause of this man’s motivation.

I would not make watching ISIS videos or reading about ISIS illegal anymore then I would the Turner Diaries (which I read as a class in college). This is another example why I say thoughts, words are more dangerous than firearms. Thoughts and words move folks to load firearms.

however, both the vegas "bomber" and the Nola driver were vets, and both served, at different times, from ft bragg ...

the more i see of the vegas "bomber" (Green Beret vet, dead in the truck, with his wallet and passport), the more i am thinking "something aint right here"

Not much can be done ahead of time even when watched. I have changed my mind on holding parents responsible when they know their kid is troubled.
I fully support it now.

Both apparently had relationship problems- the NOLA guy with 2 divorces and complaining about money issues despite a $120 K a year job, and supposedly some issues with the Vegas guy and his wife.

Seems that failed relationships are a stressor (duh.)

One of the issues about modern journalism.

No follow up.

Still crickets about that Vegas hotel shooter on the strip.

No further word on those various mass killing cases that caused so much fear a few years back.
