Former president Donald Trump said Thursday night that he’s been charged by the Justice Department in connection with the discovery that hundreds of classified documents were taken to his Mar-a-Lago home after he left the White House — a widely anticipated but also seismic event in the nation’s political and legal history.

Several Trump advisers confirmed the charges. Trump said he has been summoned to appear in federal court in Miami on Tuesday at 3 p.m. A seven-count indictment has been filed in federal court naming the former president as a criminal defendant, according to people familiar with the matter who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a case that has yet to be unsealed.

A spokesman for special counsel Jack Smith, who has been running the investigation since November, declined to comment.

Will Biden be charged soon? No charges for Hillary and that whole thingy about the server right? Just careless wasn't it? What is Walter's excuse for docs found in four homes of his that he somehow affords on his meager public service salary?

Good. About time. I suspect this is not the last indictment that bastard is likely to be dealing with before it is all said and done.

I'm actually a bit surprised to see a post such as this from a cerebral guy like you. You are actually supporting a persecution of political opposition, by a justice department, completely controlled by his potential opponent in the next election.

This is the Soviet Union or Venezuela, no better.

I don't like Trumps personality or character, but the things he's being indicted for, are done and have been done by most past presidents, to include Biden and VP Pence.

They fear Trump this badly. Welcome to America, the newest banana republic.

They did not move documents to keep them from being returned, nor have the volume of documents, nor lie about returning all the documents.

President Trump will be given the same due process as any of us. The Appellate Courts will insure those due process rights are provided for.

We are going to see more of opinions like the above post from Steve Ahrenberg. And a lot more virulent.

This is only the beginning.

Just remember, this is all about the rule of law. The ultimate claim will be that the law isn't equal or that it's political, rather than facing reality.

The rule of law only applies to one side of the political spectrum.

There's absolutely no point in even reminding you of all the Biden/Clinton "mishaps" with the legal system. You'll simply reply that the courts found no crime, the DOJ didn't press charges or the FBI said they really don't want to prosecute Hillary.

The fact that the three letter agencies lie under oath with impunity tells any reasonable American, that Lady Justice isn't blind anymore.

None of us have a clue as to what the facts are and how those facts compare to the facts in other situations. There is no way someone can conclude this is a political persecution. The DOJ investigated the matter, concluded that the facts supported a criminal prosecution and secured an indictment. That is the way the process works for everyone. I have no idea what the underlying facts are and what the DOJ thinks they can prove at trial, but I trust the process and will be thoroughly unsurprised if the facts do not support some criminal wrongdoing on the part of Trump.

If your assertion was truth, then the Trump DOJ would have been able to pursue criminal prosecution in those cases. Like I say, without knowing the facts in all these cases to call one situation unjust compared to the others is just rank speculation.

Well, one thing for sure, this will be more difficult to spin the narrative than it was for the Mueller or the Durham or the 1/6 committee reports.

But they are compelled to try.

An impeached Trump and a convicted Trump are different things.

We see this all the time now. Folks that only know the facts reported by their favorite spun news media outlet want to declare something to be unfair or unjust with no real knowledge of the facts. Hell we had Governor Abbott promising to pardon a individual convicted in a jury trial before punishment was even assessed, substituting his judgment for that of 12 jurors that actually sat in the jury box and heard the evidence.

Until someone can tell me that the facts in Trump’s case mirror the facts in other situations that did not result in charges, calling this unjust, unfair, inequitable is just a bunch of hot air.

That includes the presumption of innocence.

The entire legal system is controlled by Trump political opposition. I see no possibility of how he can receive equal treatment under the law.

The entire presidential records act is a civil penalty at its core. No more.

The DOJ agreed with this back when Clinton was investigated for it. THERE IS NO CRIMINAL PENALTY.

I put this situation in the same basket as all the election fraud claims. The Trump team had their day in court . . . they had many days in many courts . . . and lost each and every time. Yet they complain that the system is broke because they received a result they did not like. Here the system works like it does in every criminal investigation and once again we get a result they do not like and the compliant is that the system is broke. It starts to sound like the only time the system works the way it is supposed to is when they get a result they like. Sorry the system does not work that way. Let’s put the facts on the table and let a judge and jury decide, that’s the way the system works.

The entire Legal System in charge of Trump opposition is an accusation amounting to a lie. That I can not politely let go.

When that Fed District Judge, who had been appointed by President Trump, tried to stop the investigation on President Trump’s behalf in glaring contrast to the rule of law, was the entire legal system personally against President Trump?

If the Entire legal system finds itself in opposition to President Trump, it will be and is because President Trump make it so.

Okay, you presented this video.

I have no major problem with its entirety. Cringe - yes, some.

But I draw your attention to the part starting about 13:00

Comey spells out what the differences are comparing the Clinton situation and the Trump current situation, although he didn't know it at the time.

We know the entire system is not prejudicially aligned against Trump. A good number of the judges that rejected all the spurious election fraud claims were actually Trump appointees or Republicans. I cannot accept the suggestion that just because the result is at odds with what one side wants, that means the system is broken. That is just a simplistic rationalization.

Assberg brays about the corrupt DOJ. If that’s the case, why did the DOJ bring the case in a red state? Why not in DC, where they dislike Trump and are far more liberal?

Assberg, you claim that this indictment is a sham. If you know that, you must know who testified to the grand jury, what documents they saw and what the specific charges in the indictment are.

I think there's still a way to stay out of indictment, avoid investigation and not be found guilty by a jury of your peers.

I also think there are likely several here that exemplify those conditions.

Friends, Trump is damaged goods and best to cast aside. Trump is damaged by his own doing, his own words and deeds. Trump could have avoided any of this, his, "Art of the Deal" should have covered and disposed of all these speed bumps but here he is.

The time is past for us all to abandon Trump, but there's still no time like the present.

If Conservatives insist on following Trump down the Yellow Brick Road, I'll say they only have themselves to blame when Harris sits behind the desk in the Oval Office.

I used to make Mike Mitchell no end of sore when I told him it was his fault for Trump since he fronted Hillary and I bet my friend Bluefin will be no end of sore at me for telling him the same thing about Harris- Trump.

Most of the crime in the case took place in Florida. Had he returned the documents it would have been no harm no foul.

I believe that they're probably saving D. C. for the January, 06 indictment.
