IMO, there is no such thing as "fundamental change" in a system where religion and state is entrenched and conflated. The only "Fundamental Change" that will make a difference is separate church and state. Fire all the mullahs. Ain't gonna happen. They are just changing crazies for other crazies. It's just a contest for power, and the fundamentals are still defined by religion. Iran had a secular government and deposed it to have a religious one. Now they are talking about changing it to something different. Good for them. Of course, I will believe it when I see it, as I can't imagine the Mullahs and Ayatollahs giving up power, but there is plenty of evidence that the people are not real happy with things as they are run in Iran right now.

That sound like.- "If I cant have everything I dont want anything." Its a big step for public calls for a reforendum and reform. Whether it will prevail or not is uncertain to say the least, But if you have watched whats happening there over the last year, then you can see a progression and the current state is not shutting it down or managing to stamp on it. So there is a chance of reform of some sort and we should all be hopeful for that.

I have wanted to think for quite some time that the Information Age, Enlightenment, education, whatever would deliver society out of primitive practices. Maybe the deliverance just hasn't been the speed I expect. I wouldn't expect Iran's or Afghanistan's evolution to be overnight. My very stunted and limited "growth" has taken more than 50 years and it's been a very short path. I wish Iran all the best and sincerely hope their citizens learn and follow the correct path to progress.

Fundamental change is required in the West. The days of personal freedoms and glory are gone. Replaced by utterly stupid dickeads ruling every country in the West, except Switzerland. I laugh every time there is an "election" So many promises, and as soon as the selfish dickhead is in place, a 180 degree turn! London had an idiot running it. He was up for re-election. First thing he promised was remove the stupid low ommission laws HE had brough it. He got re-elected. Now he has made it worse! He was asked to asks the public for their approval. He said he is a very strong leader, he needs no more votes to do whatever he wishes. Same thing about Mrs Horse Teeth ruling New Zealand. A Commie in every since! DEMOCRACY in all its full glory!

Funny post Saeed. The West needs fundamental change, not the shit hole known as the middle East, not China, not Russia but the West. I think someone might have snuck a little Lebanese Blonde into your morning biscuit.

The treatment of women in your area of the world? Disgraceful. Religious freedom or harmony among differing viewpoints? Not a chance. Persecution of religious minorities? Oh for sure! Any sort of representative Government? Perish the thought. The whole region is fucked up from the Iraians, to the Saudis to the Pakis. Not much room to talk I would say. Especially because you cannot even defend yourself from some goat herders without US support. Hardly what I would call a functioning Government. Then again, at least you are all family.

I too wish Iran all the best, but I don't have an expectation in that direction, or either way. I too have wished for, if not expected, the "deliverance" you speak of for basically the same reasons. It's a saying that the root of all disappointment is expectation. Wish and hope are different. I had the expectation of "deliverance" ("progress") ("out of primitive practices") for our country and citizens. Yet, as you say maybe it's just not happening fast enough. Human psycho has parallels all over the world, religion and savoir and such especially. If we can do it, there's no telling what they might dream up in Iran. IMO, looking at it, them, from our western worldview, is skewed somehow. I don't mean to divert this thread, but your words inspire thought and comparisons: https://www.msn.com/en-us/news...45e7aff5649bd9447168 'Donald Trump is the God figure': Why a cult has become 'all-consuming' for his fans Story by Tom Boggioni • Yesterday 1:26 PM XXX "When fascism comes to America, it will be wrapped in the flag and carrying a cross." - Sinclair Lewis Per my far-right friend: "reality sucks" FYI - if you ID as "conservative" nowadays, Trump owns you.

And to OP Saddest part of religion is when people in power insert it into a public life and political system Bad idea but it comes up again and again and again Kinda like socialism, people always think “ this time it will be different “ well, guess what? NICE TRY…MY ASS…

One thing I learned in my over 70 years of life on this earth is a very simple fact. Regardless of what government system you have, those in charge do whatever they wish. The time during the Chink Virus proved this beyond any doubts!

That's an interesting thought. Perhaps our "system" works. When Trump was in power, it became clearer and clearer what he wanted to do. We stopped him to some degree by getting him out of office. But what he wanted to do is still out there and many, in office, media, citizens, still carry the torch. We know what he wants and will do if given the opportunity. There's opposition and those who support. So far the system has worked and kept Trumpism/fascism from doing what they want. I know that's complicated.
