Sure, that could be true. But what does the body of your post have to do with the title? You may have not noticed their relentless slant against anything right of biden, but everyone else has.

Frankly, If NPR had a right slant, Clinton would have abolished it.

Philosophically, why are we supporting public broadcasting in a country where we have the highest number of private broadcasters in the world, our media industry is orders of magnitude larger than anyone else, and you can find private media supporting any political camp you desire?

What is now National "Public" Broadcasting will certainly survive in some shape- it just will have to convince the viewership or listeners to pay for it. Some of their stuff I certainly enjoyed. The Ken Burns baseball series and some of their nature programming being examples. When I was a kid, I enjoyed Mr. Rodgers, Captain Kangaroo, and Sesame Street... but given the number of Sesame street dolls and such out there, I kind of doubt they are going anywhere.

That there is a segment of the audience that wants their preferred programming but wants the populace as a whole to support it strikes me as wrong.

And I wanted PBS divorced from tax revenue long before Trump was around... heck, even before Gingrich and the contract for America.

It may well be a very small part of our national budget... but its a larger slice of the discretionary budget, and we do need to stop funding the "nice" projects and stick to the necessary.

I would hope that when the Democrats regain power that they cut the republican favored special interests- as they have in the past. If its good for the goose, its good for the gander.

Certainly, Trump is doing this very quickly and suddenly. I can see how its seen as unfair by the folks involved and the folks who like the programming... but who hasn't had a favorite program get cancelled once its no longer getting the ratings?

Again, I've said it before and will keep saying it until the threat is quelled.

You are making a big assumption, and IMO in denial, and complicit.

Do you realize at some level that the main goal of Trumpism is to see to it that "vermin" (and all the other names Trump has called them) democrats never regain power again, by any means they can cook up? It's as much of an end justifies the means ploy as there ever has been.

PBS/NPR had a a very small budget appropriation from TP money and they delivered excellent content. Money well spent.

It's the principle of the thing as much as anything. A media source the serves us all. All the claims by rightists of bias is a lie. Any media or source that doesn't feed the bubble is deemed bias to rightists.

It's not about the money. Get that if nothing else.

It's about controlling the narratives. PBS is a small piece. Controlling the MSM is the big goal. I don't know how they will do it, but it's part and essential in the goal.

For the authoritarian shift, harm or progress depending on POV, is incremental, then sudden. We're in the incremental stage but it's full of accelerants.

Now, PBS/NPR has a job to do, and it ain't to kowtow or please Trump(ism). It's to be a source of truth. My hope is they go full-on opposition to Trumpism.

Some of the best reporting/journalism on the planet.

The title of the post and it's relationship to the content should be obvious. NPR's federal funding was cut because trump wanted it cut. trump wanted it cut because NPR is consistently accurate in it's reporting regarding the stupid shit trump, and his administration, do every day.

If you need me to explain it some more, let me know.

Sounds like they are awesome and should have zero difficulty in finding donors and advertisers...

Remember when they said federal funding was only a tiny part of their funding?

Could you show me, in the constitution, where its a mandate to funding state media?

Well, congress had already voted to appropriate the funding....and, last I heard, congress decides how the money gets spent....so, there's that. The republicans had to do a claw back to satisfy their orange master.

Why do you hate Elmo and Big Bird? popcorn trump's probably going after SpongeBob next. Bastard.

If the recipient of the government’s largess was so exposed as promoting the right’s agenda, who here would still be promoting subsidies?

The list of corporations and individuals who cheerfully accept government subsidies would be staggering. NPR and PBS are just more visible.
The economy would undoubtedly collapse if all government subsidies were cut tomorrow. Of course, to balance the subsidy cuts, tax cuts equal to them could be instituted across the board. Without the subsidy programs, we could fire thousands of bureaucrats. They could then go to work in the fields to replace the illegal immigrants doing that work now. If the government quit entirely, it's role as dispenser of largesse, the number of bureaucrats, lobbyists, attorneys and accountants which would be freed up to try actual productive work, could populate another country.
Oh, by the way, if Trump and his minions didn't say stupid shit, nobody would report them saying stupid shit. Those news outlets don't rely on subsidy as much as they rely on stupid shit. They are being provided with plenty of that. Regards, Bill

. . . like corn, soybean, cotton, wheat and other agricultural subsidies. You realize I am sure, probably not, that the subsidies for corn and soybeans are multiples of the CPB subsidy . . . corn is almost $4 billion.

It's akin the the old Rightist belief that the Govt should be run like a business. That's one reason they say they voted for Trump, because in their minds he's a businessman and will run the country accordingly.

That's all arguable, of course. Businessman - con-man - grifter - liar?

They flock to Fox because they reinforce the lies. They slop the trough of propaganda. A media source that doesn't fit that mold doesn't make sense to them.

And it is a gross fallacy to expect the govt to be run like a business, just as it is a fallacy to expect PBS to kowtow to ads and ratings and $$ in the bank for the wealthy owners and their censorship.
