I did a bit of reading, and see that there are 575 Congressmen each getting paid an average of $170,000/yr.

Considering tax breaks, expenses, travel, assistants, offices and other perks, the total annual cost runs close to a half billion/yr.

Why not just fire them all and let Trump run the country? He already doesn’t pay attention to anything anyone says, all they are is background noise. Think of the money you’d save! That could build two golf courses a year, easy, maybe three!

C’mon, you can’t do that! He’s the only one who can ‘Save America’. I heard him say so himself.

Well, if we returned to elective office being a true service, and not renumerated, and any staff a elected member had was required to be paid for by the member, the bloat in Washington would shrink exponentially. It would also mean only retired and the wealthy could run.

I’m not sure it would be worse than currently. (Note the number of very wealthy democrats in office)- I don’t think the balance of power in DC would change, but there would be fewer of them sitting there.

I think reps should be paid the median income of their districts, BY their districts. Senators should be paid the median of all their states reps. Staffers paid from their own pockets

Hey, I’m just tryin’ to help.

There doesn’t seem to be much need for a dictator who does everything by himself plus a whole other herd of expensive layabouts who do nothing but kiss his ass. Think of the money you could save!

Elon Musk And his DOGE outfit missed a big one there.

That’s not a bad idea, you’d need to wall off all the snouts in the lobbiest troughs too … and a way of preventing extravagant gifts … like 747’s.
