We need to address the hiring of undocumented workers by everyone from farmers to the Hiltons. Strong punishment and enforcement.

We need to address a path to legal status w a path to citizenship for those already here. No one is deportation g 80 something million people.

My suggestion to that end is a permit work visa after vetting. Those who joking the military for a 4 year year contract receive citizenship at the completion of said contract. Or those who maintain the work status for 6 years qualify to be naturalized pursuant to te test already in place.

I would pressure Congress for strong economic Mexico; including suspending all migration from Mexico, until Mexico meets goals for border security on their side.

The problem w that is the clothing and automobile industry that would make the average citizen scream. However, that is the only way short of military action to pressure Mexico.

The CBP offers will tell you that all they need is a policy change. Yeah, more people and equipment is always nice…but they can do the job with what they have if unleashed.

As I have always said…the GOP is far from perfect…just superior to Democratic policy.

But first, if we harken back to those days, all we hear is Russia, Russia, Russia. Many here including yourself to some extent bought into the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people. Two precious years were wasted…WASTED…dealing with a hoax. The Democrats have always said “never waste a crisis” and in 2016 they added: “If you don’t have a crisis…manufacture one!”

You’re right, they should have. And given a clean slate they might have.

The Russia Hoax and then a man-manipulated virus pretty much dominated the Trump era.

Doing nothing while complaining about it due campaign points/contributions is worse than Dems. Especially, when they had power and opportunity to dictate policy.

You can't be stupid enough to believe the Republican-led Senate Intelligence Committee just fabricated their investigation, so the only alternative is that you are knowingly and intentionally lying when you call it a "hoax".

quote:
The Senate Intelligence Committee concluded that Russian president Vladimir Putin had ordered the 2016 Democratic National Committee cyber attacks and the subsequent leaks of stolen material damaging to Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.[16]

The committee described that Trump's presidential campaign "sought to maximize the impact of those leaks to aid Trump’s electoral prospects". The Trump campaign "created messaging strategies to promote and share" the material, and "encouraged further leaks". The Trump campaign tasked Trump associate Roger Stone to gather information about WikiLeaks' release of the material; Stone reported to Trump or senior campaign members.

quote:
The Senate Intelligence Committee assessed that Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort's "high-level access and willingness to share information with individuals closely affiliated with the Russian intelligence services" was a "grave counterintelligence threat".[15] The foremost individual was Manafort's employee Konstantin Kilimnik, a Russian.[15] The committee identified Kilimnik as a "Russian intelligence officer"; describing that Manafort and Kilimnik had a "close and lasting relationship" even through the 2016 election.[18] Manafort repeatedly tried to "secretly share internal Campaign information with Kilimnik", including "sensitive internal polling data or Campaign strategy"

So, the Border was not a high priority for the GOP.

Complaining for political gain and doing nothing, which I call lying, is worse then being the pro migrant party and governing as such.

2 years the GOP was too busy to address a top 5 campaign issue.

Weak.

They are not too busy. They played you for donations and support. They care as much as Ems. They are just deceitful about it. That makes them worse than Dems on this issue.

Too busy, you are a political fool. Surely, you could have made up a better excuse.

2 years of unstoppable political power to address the border, and you got nothing of substance or note. They played us.

The GOP promised and didn’t deliver. I don’t buy they were too busy, but they did have other priorities- many of which were symptoms of Trump’s dysfunction.

The Dems promised and delivered on open uncontrolled illegal immigrants. They then continuously have lied about how secure it is.

As much as I agree that the GOP isn’t worth much at this point, anything is better WRT the southern border than the democrats.

No you just fail at the great critical thinking you claim. Too busy the deliver on a top campaign priority.

Nothing prevented the House and the Senate from passing legislation.

Filibuster proof Senate and Control in the House with President Strunk in the White House.

Their priority was tax cuts for the top 10% and corporations, not immigration reform.

You see what got done.

The Democrats ARE united to have open borders. Hence, you see what we have now. The GOP is not united for closure of the southern border no doubt. And back then…we had Paul Ryan as Speaker…he is definitely not and really not even a conservative. Glad he is gone.

All that said, the Republican Party still has potential. The Democrats, the only other choice, stand for NOTHING I like and much that I would fight to the death against.

You can’t see the forest for the trees…no big picture at all…critical thinking doesn’t even enter into your pay grade.

They had unstoppable, political power to address the border. That is more than potential.

They chose inaction. They choice to complain and do nothing for donations and to make people like you feel fear.

They had opportunity. They made the promise. They identified the problem. They my sold the problem. They sold themselves as the solution.

Just give us 60 votes in the Senate, President Trump in the White House, and GOP controlled House, and President Trump, “ Will sign that bill.” So, said Sen. McConnell at the GOP National Convention.

They lied. They were given all the above. Unstoppable political power for 2 years. They did nothing of substance.

That was a better excuse, then too busy to address a top 5, maybe 3, campaign issue. I give you that.

One cannot claim potential when the opportunity and power to act, after preaching we must act send us to act, was present with the result being zero.

Critical thinkers do not claim too busy when the Party they supported on a specific issue lied to them.

There is mo forest. What there is, is the GOO had the power to secure the horse and Dens could not stop them. The power to force migrant and border overhaul. They did nothing.

That is a stone cold, hard truth.

So, you admit the GOP was not going to “secure the border” when they had total control of the Legislative and Executive Branch. The GOP was not United. Like I said, that was a much better excuse and closer to the truth, then too busy.

It were vanishing rare for anyone wielding a club they find is particularly effective to cut that club up for firewood, no matter how cold it is outside.

Enacting an immigration/border policy would require Republicans to own it, and they could no longer scare their ignorant base with it.

And, of course, they would own its inevitable failure.

That is the real story of the border.

The GOP runs campaigns across the nation. President Trump makes border security a top tier platform run.

The American people in response give the following:

The GOP gets the House.

The GOP gets a Filibuster proof Senate.

The GOP gets President Trump to sign any bill they sen on the border.

The net real outs is zero policy enactments to address a major issue they campaigned on to get that political power.

Dr. Easter tells us, they were too busy.

Dr. Easter tells us it would be different next time. No, ie want bc the political money and the votes are in campaigning on it and never addressing it.

The GOP may never have control of it he House, a FILIBUSTER PROOF SENATE, and a GOP President in the near future to dictate border/migration policy. However, the 2 years they had that power, they were just too busy to address the greatest threat to Dr. Easter’s daily life.

No they were not too busy. They just used us, and ignored it after that got what they wanted elected.

See above what I would do to Mexico and the border, but it does not work that way in a limited Democracy being a representative Constitutional Republic.

Oh, the GOP was too busy to address this issue for the 2 years they had full unstoppable control of political power, any reform now will have to consist of bi-partisan compromise.

Any grandstanding to the contrary is just more political lies for donations and votes so any chance of becoming policy.

Now, those types supported by Dr. Easter refuse such bi-partisan compromise, and actively seek to politically destroy those who try to get results.

Thus, nothing shall be done.

Trump was too busy...playing golf.

Lane would have us believe that Trump was too oppressed by the Russia allegations to do his job as president. Bullshit excuse and chance to blame the Democrats for Trump's failures.

If Lane is right, all the more reason not to vote for Trump. What would be different this time? Won't the Dems oppress him again? And won't he again be too sensitive to do the job?

Or should we believe he's going to knuckle down and do the job this time?

There is no filibuster in the House. The GOP controlled the House. The Senate GOP had a Filibuster proof Senate. The President was all about border security, so no veto was on the table.

The Dems could tell. They could give interviews on TV. They could make campaign slogans, but for that 2 years the Dems could not stop the GOO from passing any border/migrant legislation the GOO wanted.

It was unstoppable, unblockable political power to dictate policy.

Now, and for the future, any legislation on the issue shall require no-partisan compromise. The problem Dr. Easter’s wing of the party would rather destroy those who attempt to make things better, do nothing, and nothing change while blaming Dems. In addition, to lying about being the saviors of the nation.

Joshua,
I will concede the Republican Party is not united. The GOP as a whole did disappoint me through Trump’s Presidency. Albeit, we did get a pretty good conservative court — mostly due to Trump Administration.

If you want to know why border legislation wasn’t accomplished then…look more towards McConnell and Ryan. And yes, the Presidency was under attack by a political hoax that supposedly critical thinking people like yourself, Roland, Doug, etc. bought into to some extent and yes…Russia Hoax cost Trump a lot of political capital.

On international hunting issues, I always say that 100% of Democrats and 50% of Republicans would shut us down tomorrow. Well, the border has become about the same. 95% of Democrats and 45% of Republicans are fine with porous ineffectual border control.

Now down to the nut-cuttin:
1) The border was much more controlled/contained under Trump — fact. Much more could have been done — agreed.
2) The ONLY hope the border has…comes from the GOP.
3) Federal Elections are binary choices — R or D

A critical thinker plays the cards he was dealt (not the one’s he wishes for) to the best of his potential. A critical thinker sees that if the border is to be secured and immigration held to a reasonable limit of the correct applicants…he must work where there is some light peeking through — that would be the GOP. Hence my mantra, do candidate homework, vote in Primaries, support good candidates in Primaries, but when it comes the General…tick the R box because a Democrat is always a worse choice. In the areas important to me…Biden is a dismal failure.

PS:

Joshua,
As to “my wing” of the GOP…have you ever seen me defend Gaetz specifically? In all the threads about the ousting of McCarthy…do you see me cheering it on? You think you got me figured out but let me clue you in…you are not very good at understanding people and knowing what they think. You like to put them in your Joshua-made boxes and remanufacture their words to fit those boxes. For your sake, I hope you steer clear of the aspect (understanding how people think) of law where that skill becomes necessary.

You are correct. It was the Dems who had the last Filibuster proof Senate.

I am wrong on Filibuster proof Senate.

The debate then changes why did the GOP controlled Congress not provide a bi-partisan bill to President Trump.

Do you remember a Migration/Border Security bill? I do not.

The only bill I see passed was a 1.6 billion rider for the wall w a lot of strings attached that was attached to the 1.3 trillion Government funding shutdown package in 2018.

https://www.washingtonpost.com...llion-spending-bill/

I do not remember the House sending the Senate a Bill for Dems to filibuster. Do you remember such a bill being defeated by Dems through Filibuster?

The fact remains GOP was not too busy. They just did not care after campaigning to power on the issue.

We have seen what the stupid part of the Right will do when no/partisan compromise is broached. How are we going to get a legislative solution when a minority of the GOO say we will not work w our own party nor the other to solve it. Not only will we not work w anyone, we will try to destroy politically those that do.

And Paul Ryan was a leader of the GOP, but it is all Dems fault.

Still a better rationale, then too busy.

The investigation could not stop House and Senate from debating a border/migration bill.

Especially, inputting such a bull on the House Floor.

As you correctly pointed out, the GOP did not want to put a bill on the floor.

Maybe you did not have the votes. Like you did blur have the votes to overturn the Affordable Care Act.

Face it, the issue was politicized by the right for electoral gain, and abandoned.

You are not on the majority of the GOP yet. Hopefully, never will you be.

Simply because we DO NOT NEED ANY NEW LAWS, we need to enforce the laws we already have!

Tell me junior we was illegal border crossing so much lower under Trump?
