Why is the left so outraged about the shutdown. Are they happy with how,our tax dollars are thrown away? Or is it something more sinister?

$1.5 million to advance DEI in Serbia's workplaces.
$70,000 for a production of a DEI musical in Ireland.
$47,000 for a transgender opera in Colombia.
$32,000 for a transgender comic book in Peru.
That was just the tip of the iceberg.

As much as $10 million was used by an al Qaeda-linked group for meals.
$78,000 to a non-profit linked to designated terrorist organizations including Pakistan's Falah-e-Insaniat Foundation — even after an inspector general launched an investigation.
$15 million in taxpayer funds to Taliban-controlled Afghanistan to help distribute 'oral contraceptives and condoms.'

The fact sheet lists millions of dollars in additional wasteful spending, including:

$6 million was used to fund tourism in Egypt
$2.5 million for electric vehicles for Vietnam
$1.5 million to 'advance diversity equity and inclusion in Serbia's workplaces and business communities.'

Looks like DOGE is starting out well!

If the gov't is like private business, 20% of the employees do 80% of the work. So I say don't let the door hit you in the ass. The maintenance guy at our local USPS was complaining recently about his $50/hr job and how he deserved more for sweeping the floor and cleaning bathrooms. This was while he was farking off.

Boy, I’m sure glad I don’t work for any gov
I don’t feel sorry for them and every job has its challenge
Anyway, I do believe USPS will be fine in near future

That 15 million to distribute condoms and contraceptives might be money well spent. If a similar program had been used in Central America, Africa, and a host of other places sixty years ago, a lot of today's problems might not exist. Bill

Makes for humorous reading but are teensy drops in a very big bucket.
I doubt anyone is tracking the side effects of Trump's decrees.

nobody mentionned it but i will ask what about the us farmers that usaid was buying from for wheat, soybeans and rice?

USAID, last year purchased $2 billion in U.S.-grown crops from corn and soybeans to wheat, sorghum, vegetable oil and peas.

USAID plays about 10% to 20% of the total [export] market.

interesting to say the least ...

Well if it was brought by the US government with USG funds, IMO, it’s not an export but rather more some kind of price support.

i recall, mind you, it's been at least 20 years, that for every bag of food (grain usually, but flour too) 2 in 25 make it to the impoverished people

Jeff,
Most of these morons have never been to places like Uganda where pallets of USAID canned goods are hoarded by government strongmen and sold to villagers or held in ransom for votes and other favors.

They think this stuff is passed out by the tooth fairy and every kid along the Congo drinks a can of milk before bed.

was wondering when the ag thing would come up. Our agriculture is the foundation of our "already great nation". Having a surplus regardless of the means or method is paramount. After all, isn't that one of the main reasons (price of groceries) why we have the president we have?

If you need it in simple terms, we provide markets (or support) one way or another for our farmers to always be producing more than we need so that in desperate times we are set up to feed everyone as well as an army.

But I digress, informed logical long-term thinking people always underestimate the power of short term feelings of certainty.

Lane,

You got your foot in first.

I have physically witnessed what you say, seeing above-mentioned products with the USAID logo plastered on them being sold to the general public in shops at a price of course and certainly not within the reach of a starving villager. Wink

Lane has his foot in his mouth more and more over the past year or so. Remember when he was a tepid Trump supporter at best--when he said he didn't like Trump, but would ride for the GOP brand, no matter who they barfed up for a candidate?

Now, he's reborn! Hallelujah! A true Trumpeteer!

Trump is playing five dimensional chess, while the MSM and Dems can't figure out checkers. His brilliant moves include threatening to renege on the Panama Canal lease we signed and both parties honored for 100 years. Threatening to take or buy Greenland. Plans to make Canada the 51st state.

Hey, you Canucks: if I were you, I'd hold out for statehood for each of your ten provinces. Demand three more for your territories--as a negotiating position.

You really don't have to worry. Trump isn't competent enough to pull off most of what he says.

Near as I can tell, what Trump is doing with USAID is getting rid of a very inefficient and undoubtedly somewhat corrupt government organization.

The congress votes funds for foreign aid and that is undoubtedly not going to change, although the amounts might well.

I find myself agreeing that sending condoms to various countries where (at least the ones I have been to) have absolutely no intention of using them for the intended purpose out of some sort of idealistic rationale, or giving away food products to corrupt government agencies (not giving it directly to the folks needing it) is rather useless and corrupt.

Given how much money we have given to many places and the lack of effect on public opinion, it would seem to me that something isn't working with the international aid issue.

I don't necessarily think that Musk is going to replace the mess with a better version, but the current version is broken and maybe getting rid of the current lot and getting a different set of actors in place might get a better result... If nothing else, Trump's removal of the dead wood will allow a future administration to put someone with some competence in charge.

USAID, last year purchased $2 billion in U.S.-grown crops from corn and soybeans to wheat, sorghum, vegetable oil and peas.

USAID plays about 10% to 20% of the total [export] market.

interesting to say the least ...

you are only off by an order of magnitude - or two

Like you, I have seen what the rural African lives like. Condoms aren't in the daily vernacular of the average rural African.

Truckers have unprotected sex daily on the road. The guys I have spent time with in hunting parties have normally 2-3 wives. 6-7 kids per wife. They don't see life through the same prism as Westerners or Europeans do.

Most Safaris involve some level of local travel. The trackers, skinners and game scouts are all out there looking for strange, everywhere we go.

Condom distribution is a joke. Looking at Doge savings as a negative seems like a loser to me.

I cannot think of one single American that thinks 45 million on promoting gay sex in South America is a wise use on our tax dollars. SMH

There are endless worthy causes to support around the world and foreign aid by western or richer states to those in need can make a huge difference.

Ensuring that the aid gets to where it is intended and doesn't end up funding a govt officials next Mercedes should be paramount, as should ensuring it gets to those who need it most rather than that days fashionable/ politically correct cause.

There are millions who live on less than a dollar a day or don't have access to clean water or basic medication. These people need our help, and it would be a sad day if the US ceased providing aid.
