Different topic, and I am not convinced.

Nor is it ever going to happen. There is no meat on this skeleton.

Getting rid of the last lingering vestige of slavery, the Electoral College, would be a fine place to start. Amending the definition of "treason" to recognize that traitors don't need a declared war to betray the Country would be another.

I disagree. A citizen is a citizen. GOP was all for it when Arnold Schwarzenegger got elected. The last R you will see be the Gov of California. When the Constitution was written we did not believe, create, nor want a base level of citizenship. We now have that, with the 14th Amendment. This is dispute the far right’s attempts to destroy it.

A citizen a citizen. That has to mean something regardless of where one is standing.

Citizenship obtained by fraud should be null and void.

Heym, yet again, the amend the constitution question is not about YOU and your wants.
I wonder what it would take for the COUNTRY to agree on for an amendment.
Why does it always come back to you?

Yawn:

I do not need your permission to state my preferences.

The GOP was supportive of amending the Constitution when Arnold was the golden boy.

I can state whatever i want subject to the host on the topic.

A citizen is a citizen. Had the intent of the 14th Amendment’s Privileges and Immunities clause not been destroyed by a 19th century Court the matter would already be a reality.

The “county” would agree on it if Congress would pass the resolution to the states for ratification.

You know how we find out. Pass the JR and let the states vote.

It is just as likely the “country” would go for it as whatever you think they would.

The fact you think it would not pass does not make it so either.

My idea of citizenship that informs my opinion is now the law of the land thanks to the Incorporation Doctrine.

You must have been shitting your diapers when obo was running then. The big issue was him not releasing his long form birth record, to prove he was a US citizen..
I'm not saying someday it might not happen. It sure as hell isnt in this divided time.
At this time in history, I can think of nothing that could survive the process of an amendment.

A search finds an article written every several years on the subject. A real hot ticket item for the country, and the elected officials it seems. Roll Eyes

I do not see what President Obama’s birth records have to do w this.

I never questioned nor do I question his status. Those who do are either stupid or liars.

Let the “country” vote on it. We will see which one of us is correct.

Your thought that the country would agree with allowing naturalized citizens to run for president is a bit too assured. I especially suspect that if it went to a popular vote it would not even make a simple majority. Even a large percentage of blue state democrat voters are not happy with the immigration reforms that keep getting proposed.

You are right that the only way we will know for sure is to have it voted on, though.

Let is find out shall we?

It is just as absurd as any other we can propose.

I made a thread about 5 years ago asking what constitutional amendments does our body politic suggest.

This should be easy.
Heym can go to DC, walk in to capitol hill and tell them what he demands. Make sure you shake your finger and say " do you know who I am?"
Obo was accused of not being a US citizen, and was a huge issue. That is what it has to do with things. I think trump was in on that too, if I remember right. The turd head.

Demand what?

You have placed no proposed no amendment with anymore “ground swell.”

I propose a two more
1) a balanced budget amendment to stop these confound Continuing Resolution fights.

And

2) Single issue bills.

All illegal alien criminals, gang members and mental perverts should be immediately rounded up and shipped to Pope AFB. Then given a crash course in airborne parachute drops, flown over their country of origin in a C-17/C-130 and shoved out the back.

Tell us about all the American youth that you know looking for careers in harvesting vegetables, cleaning toilets, cutting lawns.

The jobs that Americans feel they are too good for get done by those willing to do the work, immigrants.

Quit paying Americans to sit home and eat “fudge rounds” and put them back to work.

Instead, we import those ineligible…until they are.

Tell me about the American youth you know looking to go into a career in harvesting vegetables Lane.

We have become a society that thinks it is too good for those jobs. Who will do them?

Do any of your son's classmates or friends want to pursue menial labor? If not, who will do the jobs that need to be done?

Hint, it will be those with less "pride", immigrants.

You are correct…none are. Nor are any immigrants. Wink

But, wouldn’t be better for all (especially the lost souls) to see those encampments of homeless camped along a vegetable field…working, eating, sleeping, and having a sense of accomplishment.

Instead of trying to make semaglutides affordable to those on welfare…would be better to see them lean, fit, and strong from activity — their minds clear from a sense of accomplishment?

We have become a society that thinks it is too good for those jobs. Who will do them?

A mentality that will kill us and needs to change. The basic mentality which brought down the Roman Empire.

Do any of your son's classmates or friends want to pursue menial labor? If not, who will do the jobs that need to be done?

While they may strive for something else…reality dictates that menial labor is the ultimate some can achieve. Rather than make it a stigma, a healthy society should embrace that realism and dictate policy to support.

Hint, it will be those with less "pride", immigrants.

We manufactured it to be that way. It wasn’t always that way. And we shouldn’t remain.

Properly regulate and oversee welfare. Have a fair and robust law enforcement and you’ll be surprised how those jobs get filled. And that’s what it is…a job. Not a career.

Tell that to some American youth and get back to me with the number of job applicants. I'm feeling clairvoyant at the moment....you will not be able to find a single one who feels that doing that kind of work is not beneath them.

I see no one saying anything different Steve. All I am stating is that we, Americans, chose it to be that way. We could do better if we chose as well.

Not true, they would not take those jobs no matter what, assistance is not stopping them. Look at the homeless, most are happy to wallow in the muck. It is part of the human spectrum....some people will never get ahead because they refuse to participate in our capitalist society. Those folks are not going to pick our vegetables, they have crack to smoke and other pressing needs.
