After reading Joshua's responses to the fed using taxpayer money to repair his community's water supply the more I understand why there is so much waste and debt. All these effing pet projects that govt should never be involved in! If you want ev busses then get a local tax collection going. Same if your community wishes to pay for abortions and sex changes. Y'all pay for your own crap. Solicit donations, sell bonds, tax yourselves but nothing from the populous at large. If govt must collect taxes then spend it on infrastructure that everyone benefits from, like our interstate road system. I am glad for DOGE. Sickening when we find out what our money is really being used for. I hope they also look at how our congress people all became multimillionaires too. ~Ann ![]()

Yeah, I dunno about any of the assertions. But, why would you be opposed to an EV bus? It's a bad idea just in general? Or, it's a bad idea for fossil fuel bus manufacturers because they will lose money or why? I don't understand. You don't think that an EV school bus makes sense? I'm not an EV vehicle fan but I have been in enough Tesla's to understand it is the future.

That's where we differ. Especially in low-income communities, like Alaska bush villages or impoverished urban areas, there is no or little ability to tax the local population. You can't squeeze blood from a stone. I believe society owes a duty to help the least among us.

If someone thinks Congress passing national funding initiatives for infrastructure across the U.S. is waste, I cannot help. One can disagree and take that position. However, it is Congress to decide to spend that money or not. X amount of dollars are going to get spent. Communities like mine get crumbs. I do not apologize for the crumbs. Now, if the people in power a majority of Congress to not spend on such projects so be it.

Pro EV school bus argument: Could be good if the school site has solar for free charging. Con (Goes for all EVs generally): They are damn heavy, thereby tear up the roads more Seem to catch fire a lot more often than combustion vehicles Actually pollute the air MORE than combustion vehicles with tire wear & particulate that the brakes put off (weight, again) Can become unreliable for a long trip (because you can't always find a charging station Electricity an become unreliable depending on locale: During the summer, Newsom often asks us to please not charge EVs due to the strain on the grid. Because they are trying to make my state Cameroon. Just like a household, if the district had a mix of EV and combustion, they can probably sort through the issues. If they go all EV, probably a mistake.

Ask Texas how reliable their fossil fuel shit was when it was needed.

Dumbass! Our fossil fuel was fine until the mandates for solar and wind....and the feds made us shut down our older coal plants.... Without the feds we would never have had that problem.

A case can be made for an electric school bus here, heating one during a Vermont winter might create a range issue. TomP Our country, right or wrong. When right, to be kept right, when wrong to be put right. Carl Schurz (1829 - 1906)

If you want EV busses just buy them from China, they have thousands in use every day.

My post was directed to government waste. The buses were just another indication that throwing money at things is a waste. Not for being EV, but for not checking the stability of a company first. Like solyndra, and dozens of other things, not green energy related.

It's my understanding all Alaskans get money every year for just living there? I don't know of other states that do that but maybe there are? I reckon there are many other benefits as well. I can't help their choice of lifestyle. Again, local communities should decide how their own taxes are spent and not expect the world at large to cover for them. Millions of Americans do not get help. If my infrastructure breaks down, such as my well, I have to pay to fix it. No one is going to do that for me. I reckon if there was no taxpayer money period, people/communities would take care of their own business because they have to. That alone makes them stronger. Handouts have never worked. ~Ann ![]()

in many areas, the buses aren't owned by the district, they are owned by independent contractors, leased services back to the district - just to get that lined out - and the cost would go to them Secondly, EV's batteries "time out" after a number of charges, the passage of time, weather conditions, etc - and, as amazon is finding out with the rivian fleet, are higher costs to acquire, to maintain, and have a short service life. let's agree than, for arguments sake, the telsa is the first semi-viable EV - the roadster (which is just a modified lotus with batteries) is notorious for the batteries just "timing out" - there were two, basically zero mile, roadsters found in a shipping container - and where mechanically totaled, as the batteries were junk you can't have someone pull up with 5 gallons of "charge" and get the bus home I have a friend who's a willis ISD driver - she owns, after paying off the loan, her bus - she's had the same bus for 30+ years - a kajillion start stop miles, and it can be fixed at the ISD garage or any diesel mechanic shop, with more or less readily available parts oh, and her diesel bus has a much lower chance of busting into flames for crossing a puddle -- opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round?
