249 years ago today, in a bar (Tun Tavern in Philadelphia) the first United States Marine Corps recruits were enlisted. From the Shores to Tripoli to the Halls of Montezuma to Belleau Wood to Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima to the Chosin Reservoir to the Hill Battles and Hue City of Vietnam to The Battles Of Fallujah, we’ve done our best, bleeding and dying some ‘cause the guys we fight are badass, too, but mainly kicking ass and taking names. God Bless my brothers and sisters, still with us or guarding the Golden streets of heaven. JudgeG ... just counting time 'til I am again finding balm in Gilead chilled out somewhere in the Selous.

I wish everyone the world over had the dominating spirit that motivates Texans.– Billy Clayton, Speaker of the Texas House No state commands such fierce pride and loyalty. Lesser mortals are pitied for their misfortune in not being born in Texas.— Queen Elizabeth II on her visit to Texas in May, 1991.
