Tariffs do work... but for what and at what cost? As protection for a domestic industry, yes they work. But they invite retaliation and make folks upset when they feel they are targeted unfairly. Trump is using tariffs because as president it is something he can do unilaterally at least until congress says otherwise. So far, he is getting his way short term. I do think that absent his threats, neither Canada or Mexico would have bargained in good faith or very rapidly on these issues. Was it a good use of US political power? Time will tell. I tend to think it was justified by behavior on the part of Mexico. Not so much on the part of Canada, and that normal diplomatic efforts would have worked there.

Would be great if yall built refineries, as are epa all but prohibits new ones since about 1984... it takes about 5 years build time to get on stram, in texas to build one,and that's with being able to work most days... so, expect 7 Takes highly skilled operators to run safely. And refineries are notorious for hating cold weather and making off special product when cold opinions vary band of bubbas and STC hunting Club Information on Ammoguide about the416AR, 458AR, 470AR, 500AR What is an AR round? we shall see and yes there is some restrictions but i do imagine that the fear of the last few weeks is not helping that much the idea to rely on our oil being refined in the south before shipping back ... we will need oil lines that some called pipelines going across canada with crossing anymore your border.

out of curiosity what did you earn from that very rapidly or in good faith bargains done under threats i do know what canada won ... people getting closer to each other and certainly only that will impact the future of our relationship with our southern neighbor / partner and certainly not for the good.

I don’t see how Canadians getting closer together is a bad thing. I do see where US government action can sour attitudes of Canadians towards US citizens, but that is our (US) problem. Trudeau has been doing things that cause friction with a lot of Americans. That the bear got poked is understandable. Why did it take tariff threats to get him to agree to work harder to stop fentanyl smuggling, as an example? He was too worried about global migration as a right (as long as it doesn’t adversely affect Canada… and maybe even then…) and making Canadian gun owners lives miserable. The last time I was in Canada hunting big game, one of your customs agents took my luggage and opened everything- you rolling the sleeping bag- under the statement that “Americans smuggle pistols into Canada!” On an airliner? Really? That was a result of Trudeau’s idiocy. Yes I get he was an anti hunter (the outfitter was outraged and made some phone calls and found out this guy had done it before). They could not get rid of him due to his heritage was what he was told. Plenty of stupidity on both countries political systems.

I have had many negative encounters as well driving over the border to hunt and fish in Quebec. Seemed like I always got the same rude and ANGRY border agent who tore through my items as well. One time he broke my cooler slamming it around. That said, I like Canada and have many friends there. I am glad their govt has decided to assist ours with drugs and illegals. I have also been looking at things in my daily routine that came from Canada. Nothing I can see as of yet but the blueberries I bought yesterday were from Mexico and they are quite delicious. ![]() ~Ann ![]()
