All these life stories and experiences are very interesting. It's all good.

When I was younger I lived in Montana, Colorado, Idaho, and Utah, each for a while. At that time I enjoyed backpacking and backcountry. I hiked the Bob Marshall and River of no Return and Holy Cross Wilderness and other areas several times. I did the same when I was in Alaska, mostly alone or with one dog. I couldn't get enough of it and maintain a job.

Then I got the bright idea to get a riding mule. I joined in with others with the same interests. I was beyond my skill level re horsemanship, but I was hard headed, and figured a learning curve. That darn mule threw me at least 4 times, with injuries of course. One was a huge hematoma on my ass cheek. The doc wouldn't lance it to drain. He said it was safer to just let it absorb. It took months to get over that. What cured me of mules was when that SOB kicked out at me when I was loading him in the trailer. Talk about kicking sideways. He almost got me. And he kicked my dog too.

I sold him to an outfitter who reported that he was an excellent pack mule and fit right in with the team. Apparently that was the correct job for him. He was a cross between a large jack and an Arabian Mare, short, sturdy body, with stamina.

Then I bought 3 Norwegian Fjord horses, two geldings and one mare which the vet said she should never be with a stallion, thus the price was right. The geldings doted over her and would cross a river if she led the way. All three of those horses were very safe and trail/camp worthy. The gelding brothers were gestation period apart in age, the youngest less than a year old when I bought them. The mare was at least five years old when I bought her and already trained well to ride. I trained the geldings myself to pack and ride with some professional help and guidance. They never kicked at me or my dog either. They were very calm horses, and very sure-footed on the trail.

My favorite way to gain trail experience for both me and the horses was to hire a young gal with good savvy with horses and trails. She had worked for an outfitter for several years. We had fun, most weekends. She had a boyfriend. Then she got pregnant and said she had to stop working with/for me trail riding because her boobs hurt. I offered to help. She just smiled.

Once I fell off the bigger gelding. It was my fault. That good boy just stopped and stood there until I got up and got back on. I didn't train him to do that. He just knew. I enjoyed them for several years, with friends.

Now let's be nice.

The participants I can see are enough.

However, I admit, I sneek a peek. If I deem worthy, I might respond.

The thing to note is that it's exclusively my prerogative.

Even the worst trolls, such as jeffee, sometimes post something interesting and sane, as evidenced in this thread.

The nice thing about certain trolls being on ignore is they don't clutter my screen with their BS.

Thats what's funny about it. You make a big thing about your ignore list. But it only works if you dont crave interaction and forget the ignore list.
So, that you return to it constantly, and peek at what those people are saying. Says a lot about yourself and ruins any impact telling people they are on ignore has.

Oh and dont get me started on the hubris of this sentence.

Glad you are ok!

Standard treatment here for all citizens.

And if a specialist is required overseas the government pays all your travel and treatment abroad!

Yeah it doesn't surprise me that you have a good health system.
Whats it like for workers on a visa? Here they get full er related treatment and ordinary doctors visits free, but need insurance for health related issues like cancer.

All workers are required to have medical insurance, paid by their employers.

Part of the work permit.

Most probably they get a much better health treatment than at home.

Shanks, any elite unit thrives on the adrenalin of what we did. No different than vikings or warring indigenous peoples.
We were often injured in training, if you complained, you risk being dropped, so you thought little of it.
It would be the same the world over for top units.
Except helicopter pilots. They are just crazy.
We loved them. They would do anything for us, so we would do anything for them.
A very successful technique for urban areas, is to send in chalks of men and fast rope down.
A chalk is what number of fully geared men fit in the chopper. They hover the chopper above the buildings and we would drop down on ropes. There is no mechanical connection to the rope, hence "fast rope" slide, grip, slide, grip, as fast as possible. The chopper is a sitting duck for all small arm and rocket fire. They are suppose to pull out, and the men drop when things get hot. They will sit there taking hits until we are on the ground.
Marvelous, cray bastards!

Yeah, amazing stuff. I hesitate to compare the risks of work based on farm injury with those of combat because it's just a whole different playing field.

The worst injury we had on farm was My father, who was ramming wooden fence posts by himself one day.
The rammer is a hydraulically powered machine that attaches to the tractor and consists of a 15 foot vertical steel beam, up which travels an 800lb block of solid steel. It's lifted up and a wooden post is placed in line with the beam and a guide wire, and a metal plate with a 2 inch triangular blade is placed on top to hold post in place. Then the weight is repeatedly dropped and raised until the post is pushed in to required depth.

On this day he'd just finished a post, raised the weight and spiked cap, when he slipped and put his hand on top of the just rammed post, and somehow his clothing caught the release lever for the weight. The triangular knife sheared off his 2 little fingers and the weight punched his hand flat into post.
He had to somehow twist round and re lift the weight. Pick up the pieces of his hand, and walk to get help.
The surgeons did such an amazing job of reconstruction that now days you would never guess at the injury.

A friend’s wife, 80 years old.

Had previously had both hips replaced.

One over 20 years ago.

She is American.

She started having problems with one hip.

Saw several doctors in the States.

Non came up with a solution.

I asked her to come to Dubai.

She did.

Saw a specialist, and he said she needed an operation IMMEDIATELY as her hip replacement has moved!!

The experts in the US never noticed.

She had the operation here, and walks freely now.

I GUARANTEE you do NOT have any better treatment than we do.

Of course, being ignorant is a blessing to you!

My first job at age fifteen was mucking out horse shit for fifty cents a stall. Did a bit of throwing hay bales too.

Never got kicked, bitten, or stomped by any of the livestock, though I got kicked at a few times.

Shanks, you do realize that your support for national health care would mark you a flaming liberal in the US.

The GOP has no interest in addressing our health care crises. In fact, they just voted to take away health care (Medicaid) for millions of poor Americans.

The truth is Roland, I tire of the political tags used to pigeon hole people. It's part of the problem.
I try to refrain from labelling people as liberal or right wing etc now. Though Im not perfect at it.

Just my opinion but there are a few areas of governance that should be accepted across the spectrum. healthcare, education, access to clean water and electricity etc.
Sometimes we just make things too complicated.

Im liberal too some, and fascist too others. Go figure.

Shanks, there is a long list, just from nearby, of farmers hurt and killed. Tractor rollovers. Arms tore off in PTO shafts. One we all still talk about was a 4 yr old little girl who walked out of her yard to find dad chopping corn for silage in the next field.
he couldnt see her of course in the 14' tall corn, and put her through the chopper.
ruined him. sold the farm and moved away. Never heard what did become of him, been 10 yrs now.
Not a job for everyone.

We ALWAYS had it.

In the old days before insurance.

When some looses a house in fire, or a dhow in a storm.

Everyone, and I mean EVERYONE, gives something to build a new house, or replace the dhow.

No questions asked.

That is how our society has always been.

And I sincerely hope we NEVER, EVER, get to the stage where any of the Western countries are now!

Bloody hell!

Imagine being ruled by either Mrs Horse Teeth, Mini Napoleon or Trump!

God forbids! rotflmo
