We paid $7 million for it, so I think we should keep it. But we’ll sell him California for the same price.

I have a feeling whoever is next wont be so lucky. The world and situation has changed. Poking the bear will not be easy, but if America decides it needs to do something, it wont be by half.

Russia is less than it was before it invaded Ukraine, this is demonstrable. Russia is less able to agress against anyone more now than it has even since it's inception. Hell Man, a decade ago it had to buy off the Chechnens.

The only thing Vlad had left is his Nukes which are sobering. As I've said before were it me I'd be transmitting a steady drum beat of, "we can help, we can help, we can help." in securing that arsenal.

Id strongly prefer we were first on Vlads speed dial for nuke assistance than behind Pakistan and DPRK.

I would consider it a mistake to, "wall off" Russia as we have DPRK which I also consider a mistake. Someone has to be the adult, it seems to invariably fall to the USA, so why not stay engaged, regardless the others petulance and be available for the exile?

That comment wasn't necessarily about this. That was more a general reply too Saeed.

Putin is throwing mud randomly too see what sticks. Evidently the decree includes all of the ex soviet union and also all russian speaking populations worldwide. All now belong to Russia. He is going on the theory that, to use a phrase from a popular show,

Screw that. We paid for it, same as Catherine paid for Crimea.

Is the Strait of Hormuz still open?

The U.S. may not be able to fix Iran. However, we can make sure no one alive in power to day makes those decisions.

Iran, go ahead make half the Arab world come ask us to deal w that.

The US lacked the "fark" the rest of the rest of the world like the Russians. Limited wars are imaginary, you either need to go all in or stay at home. 'All In" war kills more civilians than combatants, and the US strives to be more humane than Russia in that perspective.

I think I saw a graphic that indicated Alaska is better armed per capital than Texas.

I think I can say with confidence that Alaska ain't worried about what Vlad thinks. Big Grin

The US arms 105 countries, half are human rights abusers. it outsells the next five countries for arms( russia, china, Uk, france etc) combined. Way more blood on your hands than some squabble between two ex-soviet shitholes, and all for money. Nice virtuous excuse for bungling ways and leaving the countries in worse shape.

I was in afghanistan for several years as a contractor, and another 5 countries following that. What it taught me was your soldiers are world class and brave people. Your management, policies, and public opinions however and are possibly the dumbest I have seen.

Here's an infographic on the Subject - Texas isn't even in the top 10, per capita
https://hubscore.co/report/gun-ownership-by-state

But when you count the actual GUNS - Texas is by far number 1 -- but I don't trust these numbers, as it doesn't come close to total count - this count cover 6M of the ~390 m -- but it gives indication

Fact Check: Rumor Has It that Putin Declared the 1867 Sale of Alaska to the US 'Illegal.' Here's What We Know
Story by Aleksandra Wrona •
16h

Claim:

In January 2024, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared that the 1867 sale of Alaska to the United States was "illegal."

Rating:

False

Again, the TASS article did not mention any reference to Alaska in the decree.

In sum, given that the decree signed by Putin did not declare that the 1867 sale of Alaska was "illegal" — or indeed mention Alaska at all — we have rated this claim as False.

The Japanese tried that in June 1942, Frank.

Didn't work out too well for them.

and yes, I'm aware there are historians who believe it was nothing more than a diversion to Midway, but,
who's to say what Pee-ewe-tin's intentions are?
