While I personally despise the idea of flag burning, it has been found to "protected speech"

This would lose even in traffic court

Trump wants to punish people for flag burning. Is burning the American flag illegal? - CBS News https://share.google/BidSwu6aBFT3kuAF3

Any idea we view as stupid stunt could be making sense to some
Burning flag may be protected speech but I think it’s abhorrent and unpatriotic practice to say the least
Punishment?? Not a bad idea but if it’s protected by constitution then so be it
Ultimately Trump echoes validity of opinion on that matter by many people across our nation

Who knows? It's a conservative republican appointed SCOTUS with a 6-3 majority who has basically given trump every single thing he has asked them for up to this point. Or, at least not stopped him from doing it.

Would not surprise me a bit to see them accept writ and overrule Texas v. Johnson.

Personally, I don't have a problem with it. Burning our flag is bullshit and I vehemently disagree with it. But, there is that First Amendment thing.

The whole country is built on that.

Yep, the first wasn't meant to protect things everyone agrees with -- which is why "hate speech" is non-sensical - burning a flag is (protected) hate speech -- then again, so would be my display of ABC foam from a kidde

There have been supreme court decisions that are wrong......

I believe that flag burning as free speech is one of the wrong decisions...

In Boy Scouts, we were taught that worn-out flags were to be burned, were we not?

Burning a worn out flag is not an expression of the individual, the citizen, to government.

Leave it to Jtex to empower the state to arrest citizens for expressing (speech) their discontent with the course of government.

President Adams and the extreme Federalist did that.

I would suggest reading Justice Scalia’s authored opinion on the matter.

Justice Kennedy’s concurrence, “ “The hard fact is that sometimes we must make decisions we do not like. We make them because they are right, right in the sense that the law and the Constitution, as we see them, compel the result.“

These executive orders are beyond presidential power.

Congress needs to remove this President.

Citizens burned images of President Washington and the flag.

Folks like speech when the speech agrees with them.

I wonder if Jtex would have burned the British Flag before the Second Continental Congress declared Independence? He would have been a British citizen.

Interestingly, Mittlebeeler suggests that the first anti-desecration laws were due to "
popular outcries against the use of the flag for advertising, and its common use as clothing for black face minstrels, prize fighters, and circus clowns. Profanation and cheapening were the original threats to the flag, not physical destruction.

Oh heck, while no one has any obligation to answer you.

Burning the flag then was an open act of treason. Can you site ONE case of it happening?

And, since you prolly weren't tolt it, the rebels to the crown where NEVER in majority. Not once, not a single day.

So, what you are saying , and equating, is that anyone burning a flag, not following the flag protocols, is in open rebellion.

You really should think these things through before posting. Oh, I am sure you thought you laid a clever trap... then jumped right in it

The most deficient of the Texas Contingent thanks you for your support.

I’ll ask the question again.

I wonder if Jtex would burn the British Flag prior to the Second Continental Congress? He would have been a British citizen.

The bottom line is the Jtex today would burn a British flag during the lead up to the Revolution, but condemns flag burning today.

It is hypocrisy.

Burn a flag if one feels they must.

It is protected speech and needs be so.

Still no answer.

When the most deficient of the Texas Contingent wants to respond to the question prompted, I’ll listen.

Until then we have you to speak for him.

He can answer the question proffered, or you can keep running your mouth.
