Rap has never been music. And just for the record, I bounce around on my Sirius XM and have never heard that rap crap piece. I've heard the classic 100 times by various artists, usually Dean Martin, my favorite version. I don't see where it was cancelled.

I'm not defending it. I'm saying there is nothing we can do about it and frankly I don't view it as the threat to civilization that the OP implies.

And, by the way, the outrage over rock and roll was the functional equivalent of this crying about naughty lyrics in rap songs. Parents everywhere were outraged over Elvis thrusting his hips on Ed Sullivan because of the sexual connotations. The camera operators were instructed to show him from the hips up only. The Rolling Stones had to modify the lyrics of "Let's Spend the Night Together" when they went on Ed Sullivan.

If you don't like it, don't listen to it. And forbid your children to listen to it too and see how they react...you think they'll abstain? If so, you live in la-la land.

To some extent I agree with you and then again I don’t exactly.

I strive for a different standard than most and am fine with my way being different than others. As I tell my son…that is what usually sets winners apart.

My mentor in orthopedic surgery taught me: Lane, a horse has to get up and walk back to their stall on their repaired broken leg. Then remember we are relegated to using implants and devices designed for humans.

When repairing a broken leg in a horse…everything has to be close to perfect on your part. You must strive for perfection in your performance. Realize you likely won’t ever be perfect…but the horse’s life depends on you being close enough.

This fit with my personality just fine…hence my career.

I played ball just the same and is also how I coach my baseball teams. We better not lose a game just run out of time. IE: Play the last minute as hard as the first.

I think you are looking at it slightly wrong Mike. One part of the population is so worried about music that does not suit thier agenda, that they effectively had a song removed from playlists.

Am I wrong to think that at one time our arts and culture strove to be better, to improve? I thought singers worked to sing more beautiful or carry more notes, composers likewise. Seems like painters and sculptors worked for perfect beauty pursuing nature's perfect beauty.

Your right Mike kids will listen to what they want too. I think the problem is the morality of the content in the music. I guess depending on a kid's standards they can listen to whatever they want . I personally think kids should be helped out a bit defining those standards.

I came home about two years ago un announced and caught the then 13 year old playing graphic rap music on the Alexa speaker. Of course she immediately shut it off upon my entry, but when I asked the three kids what that song was, with no hesitation my then four year old told me the title. I confiscated the speaker, told them I'd be Googling the lyrics and would get back to them later. Upon educating myself with Google I kept the Alexa speaker for a year, shut off the 13 year olds data on her cell phone and explained that if I couldn't count on her to responsibly censor what the four year old was hearing and seeing them nobody could listen to it under my roof.

Years ago I saw a TV program with a highly successful black songwriter/musician explain it. It is nothing more than sing-songing to a beat, and requires no melody or real talent. It is the EASIEST thing to do and kids will always as a whole, take the easy path. And he was greatly disappointed in them. There was a reason why the Chicago Bears "SuperBowl Shuffle" was rap.

Well, talent and gifted are readily appreciated by most, aside from genre.

But no matter if the doors and windows of a vehicle are shaken by giant woofers/base, that's no substitute for real talent, regardless of the lyrics.

I find the twang of some country "music" to be ugly (for lack of a better word).

I don't care for most country music either, though I make exceptions for Johnny Cash, Lyle Lovett, and JJ Cale (who's more a blues man really).

The difference is that the explicit stuff is now played on the radio, critics ramble on about how empowering it is, the artists are nominated for and win awards. They performed this song for the Grammys(?) on live TV and included simulated sex(the two female singers scissoring and grinding their crotches together on stage). The song had wide radio play and was at the top of the charts for a month....

While at the exact same time, the same “progressives” who were lauding this song were mounting a campaign to have Baby it’s Cold Outside banned from radio station because the lyrics were “rapey”.(I guess they don’t understand that women used to play hard to get as part of the mating dance in the 1940s?)

My point is this: you progressives can’t understand why conservatives are adverse to change? How can that be when the change you bring us normalizes pornographic music and brings it into the mainstream, while at the same time canceling an old classic because it they believe that it represents a courtship model that they believe is outdated?
