A cast aluminum dutch oven is intriguing...
I get a sanding disc 1/4” drive for my drill and smooth out the bottoms of my cast iron. I did this to my 16” Lodge and it is my favorite pan. I like a smooth cast iron surface. Easy to clean and season on the regular.

The Boy Scouts used to sell an aluminum dutch oven, as well as the cast iron ones. I think that the thought behind it was that it would be good for packing back in somewhere-either with horses, canoes, boats, etc. Never saw one in action, though. I've read lately about them, and the guys using them say that they work very well. In fact, some of the comments are from guys that have taken them in to the middle fork and lower area of the Salmon River in Idaho. Just like the cast iron ones, only cast out of aluminum.
