If you are thinking about using High Country Taxidermy in Eagle Wisconsin BEWARE. I was stupid and read the big adds in SCI and then was impressed with his fancy booth at the convention and decided to use Edwin. He was a likeable guy who made a good first impression. After delivering some animals the calls started, beggging for money for reasons that changed with every call, for instance the Sultan of Dubai owed him huge amounts and they were going to pay himin a week. I stupidly helped him out SEVERAL times. Each time he promised to ship my remaining animals. This happened numerous times, and after he gets the money you could not get in touch with him. Then he would call again and ask for another 5k. Of course the reason would be even more unbelievable.

Well 2 1/2 years later he still hasn't shipped my remaining trophies. I am at a loss, I do not like legal action but it seems like he is begging for it. I will never use him again even though his work is good,It is not worth going through this.

If anyone is thinking about using him or has trophies there, good luck getting them. Of course SCI has no comment, but these type of people should be banned from the hunting fraternity. I will be letting the hunting report know and 24 hour campfire. If you are considering High Country Taxidermy BEWARE!

I used to live near Eagle River and I thought I knew all the taxidermists in the area. Where exactly is this guy located?

gerry, sorry for the problems your having but thanks for warning all. There are some fine artists on this forum that do not rip people off and return mounts in a very reasonable amount of time. Just view this forum and ask around. Best of luck, LDK

Sorry man, I ust to work there. This guy is bad news on all fronts. pathological liar to say the least and he owes several people money and mounts from years ago. When I was there in 2009, I was mounting ducks from 2001. Get in line man, but good luck....

From reading, the amount of money you have sent could possibly make it a felony if he does not deliver your animals. I had a fly by night taxidermist many years ago that tried pulling a fast one on me but he was easy to track. I sent him a couple of letters that I copied his local DA and I got my mounts. Altough he did some really crappy work one one of them.

Good Hunting,

I've been told that he already has 2 sizable lawsuits against him.... He doesn't have a studio anymore as he has moved into a dirt floor barn at his parents house. He didn't pay his rent for several months...

shithead Edwin owes me too!
he has several mounts from nearly three years ago of mine.
He recently emailed photos of two mounts stating they are done---- but he will not deliver them---claims he has no money for the gas!
He claims it will cost $1400 (expenses) to ship or deliver them himself.

I am in the process of making arrangements to go get my stuff from this dipshit ASAP.
I have been battling this guy for a year and half--enough said

That's just bull. People like that gives us real taxidermist a bad name. What you need to do wait for the weather to get good and go and knock on his door and demand your items back, mounted or not and if he says no , or he sold some of them, drive to the police and file charges of thief, etc. and then call the F&G and get his license pulled.Everyone needs to stand up to jerks like this. Very unprofessional... bsflag

GerryB,

Sorry for your troubles, but thank you for doing the right thing--exposing crooks--as a warning to fellow hunters. You very well may have saved someone else from being fleeced.

I can highly recommend Jerry Huffaker.

He has done work for me, and I have seen a LOT of other African, and North American animals he has done.

First rate work, and he is a good honest guy to deal with.

If you are an SCI member file an ethics complaint....they might ban him from the shows.

That's ia an understatement. He is a pleasure to work with and will work with you in developing the exact mount you want even long distance by utilizing email, text, and cell calls.

Not sure they would even do anything or could but has SCI been notified about the topic of this thread since the guy was selling his services through a booth at their show?

lasted update.
I was able to get a friend of a friend to pick-up my trophies from Edwin today! shocker

they are done and complete. (full leopard in tree, Hartebeest mount, Gemsbok)

His orginal shop is closed and has been sold I believe, It is empty for sure.
He has some trophies located at his parrents house/barn
hope the rest of his clients are as lucky as I was to get there stuff(this has been more than 3 yr. process!). I am traveling most of next week to pick them up in WI.
more news to follow next week.

trophies look good.
However, the tree that the leopard sat in cracked all to shit from the road travel home. So I am now transporting the leopard mount to another taxidermist for repair.
this sad story just doesn't end. Confused

hope others get their stuff back----Edwin is hiding out at his parrents house for those looking for him.
