Here is a L/S Mid Asian ibex my bud shot when we went to Kyrgyzstan. He had me delay mounting it b/c he was in the process of moving..
Once he was ready for the mount, I got to work on it.. Just finished it a few days ago.

This hunt we went on was booked on here through our own Arjun Reddy.

Sorry for the choppy photoshop of the background! Still trying to perfect that!

This kind of makes me wish I kept the full skin from mine. I love the white saddle on them.

Take the plunge LittleJoe! It's a great experience and there are several very reasonably priced varieties.

Peter, right now I have the Africa bug way to much and it is what I dream of. Someday I hope that an Ibex is on the list.

Thanks guys!
This ibex was shot by a good friend of mine. The hunt can be seen on youtube on the Seladang page.
As soon as we walked up on it, he knew he wanted a L/S done.
After I completed it, I was a tad jealous that it wasn't staying here with me!! It is a nice trophy.

I held my L/S requirement to getting a 45" or bigger billy. I didn't meet my prerequisite and I caped my 2 billies out for shoulder mounts.

I've got the itch for ibex bad..It is all They are all I want to hunt any more.. I am going to Spain next year, and maybe Kyrgyzstan again before that.

I've got another L/S ibex (a med sized NM bezoar) as well as 2 Mid Asian shoulder mounts. Once I complete them, I'll snap a few pics for you guys and share it.

I understand what you mean Joe. I try and balance it every other year to focus on Africa and Asia as I like what both have to offer equally.

Scottyboy, is the NM Persian ibex one that you have taken? If so, I'd like to hear about your hunt. I just started to put in for that draw this year. Unsurprisingly I won't be hunting NM this year. Kyrgyzstan's a great time and I wouldn't blame you for going back...I know I plan to.

I send in for Ibex in NM every year and have a less than 1% chance with a rifle or muzzleloader. Not good.

How do you get rid of the smell? One friend has an Ibex with zero smell and the other one has such a smell it about knocks your head off when you go into the trophy room.

Pete & Justin

No, the NM goat isn't mine. It's a bud's from ND. He drew the MZ tag this last season.
I've been trying for a tag there (ibex and Rocky bighorn) for 14yrs now without success!
Luckily though, I only live 3hrs
from the Florida mountains and am over there quite a bit scouting for big billies. I am also always on 1-2 hunts over there each season with friends who were lucky enough to draw or with outfitter buddies who have clients who draw.

If you ever pull a tag (even archery), I'll 100% put you guys in front of goats. It's an awesome hunt.

As for smell, they do stink something fierce! The tannery knocks alot of the smell down but its still there.
When I am ready to mount, I will first shampoo the hair side of the cape thoroughly, rinse it, then wash it in an odor neutralizer before I mount it.
After the mount is completely dry, I'll spray it down with a diff odor neutralizer and then brush that deep into the hair. That usually knocks 95% of the goat smell out. The other 5-6% just comes out with TIME!
I also really scrub the horns (after rotting them off) with a stiff brush and alot of Dawn dish soap. The soap pulls alot of that smelly oil off the horns.

I'll take some pics of the next 3 ibex mounts & post them here for you guys.

Steel
I'll post a few of the finished water buffalo mount. That bull was shot by Nganga (Steve). He used to post here.. That was his bull from our AR group hunt in Australia last yr. It came out nice IMO.

Scottyboy thanks for the info. Good to know. Basically, it sounds like the smell can virtually go away if the taxidermist and client want it gone. No question I would; it is terrible.

I'm having my taxidermist do all he can to remove the smell from the cape. Even the horns stink and I'm sure that will take awhile to go away. My tur had a summer coat and had quite a fragrance to him but that was non existent when I got it back...the horn smell is gone from him already though.

I'd like to put in for the archery tag but I'm a bit leery about forking over the $1600 tag fee and then pay for a guide and then just hope for a decent shot opportunity. I've watched a few of the hunts on youtube and gun hunters seem to have a tough time getting a shot. What are your experiences about getting into range (bow and gun)?

Pete

getting into bow range is one of the hardest things you can sign up for in the hunting world. But it can be done. My good buddy had the 1st archery hunt this last season. We bedded a billy the night before the opener, and at 1st light, Zac arrowed him.
Unfortunately, he hit him too far forward. We chased that goat for days and days until a snow storm ruined the trip.
We found the goat (alive and healing) on the muzzleloader hunt the following month about 4 miles south with a big herd.. We actually tried to kill him, but the hunter with the tag missed (ALOT). That hunter ended up with a mediocre billy, and our other tag holder ended up with a 51" giant billy. We had passed on this billy a few times (he was busted on 1 side) but this other hunter fell in love with him as soon as we showed him to him.

Here is a vid Zac put together of his hunt.
http://vimeo.com/57037462

We'll be back in Oct for the archery hunt (the state moved it MUCH earlier this year). We had 2 friends draw. Both NR from here in AZ.

WE'll also be over there for the Dec rifle hunt. We had a friend pull a tag.

The bow tag is a TOUGH hunt, but a LOT of fun. I don't put in for it, although I am starting to think about it. 14 yrs now of no tag, and going over there every season is eating at me. I want a crack at one of those big billies!

Thanks for the info Scott. I actually watched Zac's videos before I applied this year and thought they were well done. It looked like he put a lot of time and effort into the hunt. Too bad for him in coming up short and I hope he connects the next time he pulls a tag. I think that I'd be more than happy with a busted up 51" billy ha. I didn't think that they got that big down there.

Do you know why they moved the season dates so much? I noticed that when I applied from researching it in previous years that it had changed drastically. I thought it was kind of in a convenient place on the calendar. I was supposed to go after one in Iran last year until they closed the hunting season. I'm still hoping to take one on two continents...I just don't know which hunt what will be harder to do.
