I'm having my springbok mounted her ein Tz by a local Taxidermist. Of course these animals do not occur in Tz so I'm looking to base the mount (shoulder mount) on a Grant's form and shape it accordingly. For this, I need pictures of such mounts from different angles. Some close ups of facial features such as nose, eyes, ears and the mouth would help.

Any input form you all is highly appreciated.
cheers,

Why not get a Springbok form from RSA? Would shipping costs be too expensive? (I have no idea). There is the possibility of getting someone in RSA to bring you one. Several of my PH friends live in RSA and hunt in Tanz. I'd be glad to make some inquiries for you. LDK

I would suggest you use pictures of Live Springbok for reference rather than a mount, here are a couple of good shots for you.

Damnation...... I read this thread just a few hours too late..... poli sana bwana.

I'm reading this 1430 hrs and the trucks left for TZ at 0700 hrs. I could have picked a form up from lifeform and sent one up on the trucks!

Asa I said, poli sana...... Confused

Jerry is right on regarding using live photos vs. photos of mounts for reference.

Great close up photo Jerry!

Here are a few more:

Notice the prominent veins in the ears and the "softness" to the shape of the mouth/nose

Altering a Grants form is possible but you would really need to get the neck size down and shorten the face a bit. A springbok form would be better and would save a lot of work.

Hope it turns out well.

There's your solution Bwanamich. Get Steve the measurements (your Taxidermist will know what I'm talking about) and see if the folks at Life-form can get you a Springbok form. Would be an easier solution than altering a Gazelle form. Or ask Life-form to mount your Springy.
Great pics guys! Not only the mentioned details, but pay close attention to what a live Springbok's nose looks like: more closed than open. They flare their nose when agitated or scared. Otherwise it stays a lot more closed than flared. Also, the gentle upward curvature of the mouth. Not straight as a board as many mounts exhibit. Thanks for posting, I love those little guys. LDK

Ok guys, you´ve convinced me. I´ll hold the project until I can get a form from somewhere.

Steve, no big hurry. Even next year is good. Thanks for the thought though....

Michel,

I'll go to Lifeform on Monday and see how delicate they are....... it might be possible for me to put one in my baggage and bring it up with me....... it won't weigh anything after all.....

The problem is that we have to bring PC/RBGAN/sat phone/radios etc etc up as handbaggage and I don't think they allow more that one piece of it (handbaggeage), so it'd have to go into checked baggage where it'll get thrown about.....
