While in Zim last SEP, I was shown some animals that had been framed, with the skin as a backdrop, and the head and neck emerging from the frame. To me they were pretty weird looking. It looked like the animal was slowly dissolving in acid or something. I was told this is one of the "latest" trends. Anyone else seen these kinds of mounts? BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

I have seen a few like that, do not know what I think about it yet. It is very non-traditional taxidermy. Have also seen a mule deer buck head and hide mounted on a pack frame, like you were packing it out. Different, it was in a very nice trophy room for added decor. Most of the taxidermy I have seen like that, the taxidermy is very well done.

I have a blackbuck where the backskin is mounted on a board behind the shoulder mount. It shows off the colors of the animal nicely. No frame, just an oval shape to the board. My dad had his springbok done that way and it really looks nice. They are much prettier than just the neck/shoulders and it is hard to show that without a full body mount. The Texas taxidermist that did my blackbuck called it a flare mount. The frame thing does seem weird. Jeremy

The backpack mount is at a friends place in the hill country in Texas. I will be there in January 2018, will try to remember to take some pics if he does not mind.

I am surprised someone hasn't made a mount depicting a deer/elk gutted and hanging from a meat pole. That would be an attention getter for sure. I went into Jonas Bros one time and they had about a dozen baboons seating at desks as if in a classroom. Apparently some people just have too much money. BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!

Not taxidermy, but have you seen outdoor Christmas decorations depicting a deer gutted and bleeding out? It's one of those full-size Christmas deer, a frame outlined in white or clear lights, hung from the hind legs with a string or two of red lights running from the chest area down to the ground and then spread around like a pool of blood. Darn, my wife wouldn't let me copy it! The latest "rage" if you will are the DeMaske mounts. Dennis Harris of The Artistry of Wildlife created this one and will be doing one for myself and a few other clients this year and next. I have a list of clients that will be hunting with us next year and several have expressed a desire to have Bontebok, Bushbuck and other wildlife created using this method. Although they can be various sizes, this type averages 6 feet tall by 4 feet wide. I know Dennis has other photo's he can add if he has time. ^That one doesn't look as weird as some I,ve seen, but still looks somewhat unnatatural to me, but "different strokes". BH63 Hunting buff is better than sex!
