As many of you know I had a great hunt last week and took my first Montana wolf.

Any way, I thought it would be very appropriate to celebrate this hunt by at least "trying" to eat him. I cut out his backstraps which truly looked like great cuts of meat. I then took it to my neighbor who used to own a meat shop and catering business. He and I made up a special "Molloy Marinade" (named after fed judge Molloy who has meddled with this hunt for years). It was a mix of red wine, olive oil, kosher salt, pepper and a few dashes of spices that I couldn't identify. We let it soak for 48 hours and last night at a neighborhood celebration party we grilled the wolf! On my honor as a hunter, I will say with complete truthfulness, the meat was EXCELLENT! There were a few folks who just couldn't get past the thought of wolf meat but for those that tried it, they were shocked. It was tender, moist and had great flavor. One guest who is a serious cook said that if people knew what this tasted like they would be shooting a lot more wolves. When it was over, several people took chunks home to share with their friends. I am now regretting not harvesting more of the meat to try as a roast and even make into jerky. I am writing this about 12hrs after dinner last night. It will soon be time to take a quick walk in the woods and return the old boy to the earth from which he came, just as I am sure he would have done for me had our encounter on that day ended differently.

so how fast did you eat it?? i mean did you sort of wolf it down? (just couldn't help myself)dog gone - was it really good?

Was it fatty meat? The Chinese eat more dog in the winter to "keep warm" I was once told by a friend.

That is encouraging; and, it looks delicious!

I should not be surprised that it was good. I ate some of my African lion and cheetah, and boot were good. To tell the truth, the lion was outstanding. It was probably the best meat I have ever eaten.

Having said that, I don't know that I could bring myself to try wolf. I can't really say why, but for some reason the idea of eating a true K-9 is almost as off-putting as the thought of eating a primate.(Cheetahs are more dog than cat, some say. but eating one did not really bother me)

Regardless, my hat's off to you. First for killing the wolf, then for eating it. Good show!

That does look delicious. Kinda makes me want to go wolf hunting. For some reason pairing it with a Zinfandel just seems right.

I have skinned many coyotes and if a skinned wolf smells as bad as a skinned coyote then it would be hard for me to go much further. The pics really made the story and the meat looks great.

The hard part is getting over the fact that it is a predator. If a person can get past that, it is surprising how good some things that we really don't think of as game meat taste.

I've never eaten wolf, but have eaten grizzly bear and it was OK. On the other hand, I had backstrap chops from the first leaopard I shot, and they were outstanding. I had to go for seconds of the leopard. It looks, smelled and tasted a little like good loin pork chops.

I guess all of those elk & moose calves it killed must have imparted some of their flavor to it's meat.

That wolf probably tasted close to what he had been eating his whole life, Elk!!!

People are typically opposed to eating any predator. I am not a huge fan of black bear but I ate some of my grizzly bear and some of my brown bear and neither of them were bad. we only had "camp" spices to season the bears with but it tasted nice to me.

I also ate my leopard from this past summer and it was outstanding.

Just a quick health update..........

Over the last 48hrs I have noticed a substantial increase in the hair content of my stool. My neighbor ate a lot more than I did at the BBQ, now his wife tells me that last night he circled the bed 3 times before laying down. I'll keep you posted!

Now go shoot some more and have a barbq

People eat wild boar. I mean the things those hogs eat would gag a maggot; so why not wolf?

Several friends of mine have had mountain lion and says it tastes good.

Guess you did not watch Twilight.

Give yourself a little time, the external changes will start to show in a few months.

You will be able to hire out to the elk hunters as a tracker once your sense of smell starts improving.
