Then I guess posting the details of a 700 yard, one shot kill on a Whitetail with the same ammo and caliber would really get some panties in a knot on this forum. Funny thing is, it was done and happened but I'm sure we would all have to endure 100 posts as to why it shouldn't have worked, it's hard to escape reality. For those that feel they are in the know how, you will have to crunch the #No's for the same factory ammunition as in the OP but work it with a 20" barrel due to the fact the Whitetail was stuffed in the dirt with a 20" carbine. Same twist though. Edited: Please note that I did not make the shot spoke of above but I sure would have liked to. -------------------------------------------- Nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home.

At 700 yards, you’re a shooter all right but no one can call you a hunter. Most game is shot a lot closer than that.

What's the difference? Point blank or at distance, dead's dead. I've done both plenty and the freezer doesn't seem to care either way it's taken. -------------------------------------------- Nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home.

Very interesting! There is a conflict of vision between you and me. Although I’m not a religious man, I’m somewhat spiritual in nature. If you can’t see the difference, we can agree to disagree and move on.

Why should one not take a shot that results in a 1 shot kill? He has a much right to post here as you _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

I was simply stating...Will the elk hunt outcome be posted...no matter what occurs? I've found that these LR guys post all the victory shots...but seldom discuss the misses/screw ups. 'I'm tryin' to think, but nothin' happens"! Curly Howard Definitive Stooge

How many threads of screw ups have you seen posted at any range? _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

According to the ammo velocity is 2550 FPS
At 2559 FPS according to Ex-bal the energy at 490 yards at sea level is 778 foot pounds At 5000 feet the energy is 905 foot pounds If the starting velocity is only 2200 FPS the energy at 490 yards at sea level is 556 foot pounds At 5000 feet elevation the energy is 646 foot pounds Proving that you two are idiots _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

"If the starting velocity is only 2200 FPS the energy at 490 yards at sea level is 556 foot pounds At 5000 feet elevation the energy is 646 foot pounds" Amazing the facts that come to those that actually apply their selves, I never did understand where 400 foot pounds of energy at 593 yards came from? Anyone? Anyone? -------------------------------------------- Nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home.

So now energy is important???

It's really hard to post pics when they miss. It's even worse when they finally find the half eaten coyote gnawed carcass three days later because of a wounded animal. Those photos don't cut it on an internet forum..... /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." I guess the question is, why was the shot taken at that range? Bragging rights or another reason? I can see attempting that shot in the right set of conditions (last day of the season, not enough daylight to stalk closer), but I see alot of people shooting deer at long range that have no business doing so.

In my view what was done above is just showoff non sporting baloney. Please don't post immature bragging like this again. Thank you.

Folks interested in duplicating this stunt would be better off using the Grendel for p-dogs, wood chucks, and fawn-killers at ranges that push its envelope, not on valuable, managed BIG GAME ANIMALS.

Not every shot is made under perfect conditions and within 75-150 yards. Obviously, 16 yards is very close for a .30-30 Imp and 500 yards is pretty far for the 6.5 Grendel but game doesn't place itself at convenient distances. Before deciding to take a shot you should consider the chances you will cripple game or destroy meat and act responsibly. If you do decide to shoot then you do what you can with what you have when the opportunity presents. I watched a good friend shoot a caribou at 602 meters with a 300 Win Mag. I measured it with my range finder. I would never attempt such a shot but for him it wasn't unreasonable. He spent most of his 30 years in the military as a sniper and carried the proper rifle and equipment for the shot. Skills and firearms differ tremendously from shooter to shooter. Some guys are capable of very long shots and some guys have trouble hitting anything beyond 50 yards. I believe we are acting responsibly and ethically as long as we know our personal limitations and stay within them. .

Just making a point that several of you don't have the IQ, capacity and or means to crunch the smallest #No's and even come close in foot pounds for the sake of your own argument but you sure are good at running yours sucks about absolutely nothing viable. I did impact 4" under a groundhog at 1162 yards this spring, I would be glad to send you a picture of the bullet splash on the rock next time Im up that way if pictures of misses interest you so much. -------------------------------------------- Nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home.

Can't help but notice RC completely diverted from the original post. To start his panty waisted post. When the S&*T gets to deep what does RC do? Shifts, attempts discredit, beats his chest and runs his suck about "Pink Slips". GO GIRL.
