If you can't hit a Deer at 493 yards, by all means, don't shoot. Just don't try to impose your limits on others. _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

rcamuglia- Please seek help. You come on here, HIJACK and the dominate someone else's thread and try and pass off your own limitations on others. You admit it's OK for you to shoot and wound a coyote in the arse at 930 yards but that it is not OK for someone to cleanly kill a deer at 493. What a hypocrite... When you have nothing constructive to say, you go about bashing others. If you'll note, I did not post until you had about 14 replies in this thread alone. ANd now you've turned it into another personal attack. Perhaps if you were that obsessive in keeping your restaurant up to code, it would not have been shut down by the health department. Hey bt! No fair running and hiding now! No fair posting and deleting before we all have time to read it and laugh either! I got the email notification, checked and you had deleted Heck, in your bassackwards bow thread you even posted something applicable here!......

"No fair posting and deleting before we all have time to read it" --- rc-I did not delete anything (though I corrected a typo), and if I did, why the hell would YOU get a notification??? That's absurd...unless you've now resorted to public stalking. Run and hide? I don't think so. WHen I come to the computer, it's only for a few minutes at a time (though it may be left logged on). I am medically disabled, and the pain I go though daily doesn't allow me to sit in one spot for more than a few minutes. But if that's "running and hiding" in your books, so be it. I could care less. It seems the proponents of 493 yard shots at game have little in the way of ethics. You win an argument with a fool so I will just leave the rest with you guys. If you are competant and comfortable making a shot at that distance, where do ethics come into play? What constitutes an ethical range? Is it bayonet distance? Bow and arrow distance? Buckshot distance? Slug distance? Or maybe handgun distance? Maybe we should run game off of cliffs like they did in the old days. Is that ethical? Why do distances somehow determine what is ethical? I think the premise of this argument is treading on a very slippery slope. "Ignorance you can correct, you can't fix stupid." JWP If stupidity hurt, a lot of people would be walking around screaming. There are seriously some weak individuals in this world. " You can't do that!, you shouldn't do that!" Oh really, I just frikn did. So how about that? Only ignorance precludes it, which is seemingly more than enough. Stick your nose in your books and read what other have done, I don't have time for it. Due to the fact I'm out in the field doing it. -------------------------------------------- Nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home.

Oh what a wonderful person you are. I'm wondering if you would have posted this if the deer had only been wounded and run off to be eaten by coyotes later; which was the more likely scenario.

Rolltop, people wound and lose deer at 75 yards. What's the difference? How often do you see folks blowing the dust off of their deer rifles the day before the season opens? Doesn't matter what distance those fools are shooting game at, as they don't practice and stay at the top of their game. This guy obviously doesn't skimp on trigger time. Bitch Slap? that's a good one. It says some pretty negative things about today's society in general when people defend hubris and condemn humility and respect for the game. You are obviously well versed on firearms and ballistics, and from all evidence, a good rifleman. If all of our 11B's were so well trained, maybe we wouldn't be expending 10,000 rounds for enemy hit over in the sandbox. I understand the allure of long rang riflery, having dabbled in it when I was younger. With time, I grew up, and started challenging myself to get closer to the game before closing the deal, and I learned the art of stealth.(I am a veteran, too, 91B with more than enough weapons training to hold my own). When I recall my most rewarding hunting experiences, I recall the big mulies and whitetails that I have belly crawled up to and killed in their beds. What you are NOT doing out there is hunting. All of the ballistic chest thumping in the world doesn't cover the fact that you seem to have no respect for whatever your "target" happens to be when you have a rifle in your hands. I can no more teach you respect for the pursuit than you can teach me arrogance, so let's agree to leave it at that. Good luck "smacking, smoking, hammering, and laying the smackdown" on your targets. I think I'll just go HUNTING!

Hey SMACK, Thanks for going back into your post on page 1 and editing in some pics. Glad to see you can choose an adequate caliber, develop the loads and have the shooting skill to put them where you want them. Kinda funny how everyone here thinks you chose the caliber and made the shot when it was your brother, and you're on the defense as if it was you as well Some attack because of the range. Like I've posted, I have no problem with it. Others who have a clue, question the choice of this cartridge for mule deer. And now you say you'll (your brother) will use it on elk. Quite defiantly I might add. Sorry to say it but all of this crap is just what Gracedog said. Chest beating driven by some ego thing. I have the utmost respect for anyone who serves in the military, but frankly anyone who would purposely use this puny varmint cartridge at the ranges you're talking about where energy at impact is so pitiful is a complete moron. I just got off the phone with a heavily sponsored rifle shooting buddy of mine; the guy who was chrono'ing the Grendel that day. He says Mark Larue is a complete idiot (as if we couldn't surmise from his proud posting of shooting elk at 405 yards with this puny round). He won't have anything to do with Larue Tactical. quote: "A hunter should not choose the caliber, cartridge, and bullet that will kill an animal when everything is right; rather, he should choose ones that will kill the most efficiently when everything goes wrong." - Bob Hagel Thanks for posting HC.

I have to sit and smile, ten years ago I was spun so tight I would have read some of these posts and would have wanted to get on a plane and go punch someone in the throat. Now I just sit and smile, it is what it is. My opinion and ways won't change over these posts as I'm sure others won't. I don't take it personal there for I don't need to use the "Ignore" option. After my last two posts, I kicked my chair back and realized I was letting myself get sucked into the drama. -------------------------------------------- Nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home.

Exactly what cartridge is that? A gut shot deer ain't going down with any that I know of, unless you talking about a 105 howitzer? _____________________________________________________ A 9mm may expand to a larger diameter, but a 45 ain't going to shrink Men occasionally stumble over the truth, but most of them pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing had happened. - Winston Churchill

I'm going with, Well done on the shot and well done on the kill. I completely disagree that this is just "shooting" and not hunting. A shot like this takes skill, practice and patience. The Hunt goes on forever, the season never ends. I didn't learn this by reading about it or seeing it on TV. I learned it by doing it.

I haven't chambered anything up yet,I'm still waiting on my Stiller action. The picture bellow is that of A: 243 Win case on the left, A 6.5 Brooke go gauge center and a .308 Win case on the right. Here it is, it is what it is. From the left.. 100gr Nosler ballistic Tip(6.5/.264), Lapua 6.5 Grendel brass, .243 Win Case, 6.5 Brooke go Guage, .308 Win far right. Amazing, the Grendel is small and tight, just like I like most things other than my truck... -------------------------------------------- Nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home.

Now RC, the pic bellow is that of a plain jane 1911, out front is the 6.5 Grendel case(Left) and a factory Remington 230gr .45 ACP round(Right). The Grendel's muzzle energy at 493 yards is the same as shoving the muzzle of the pictured handgun with the pictured pistol cartridge against the ribs of the said deer and slapping the trigger. Enough said? If you are in doubt, please let me know. I would be glad to let you borrow said pistol and said round so you can shove it against the ribs of one of the labs in your profile pic and slap the trigger. Please let me know if you just wound him and he runs off. I would be more than pleased to compensate you for your grief. Or I could send you this Springfield custom .45 that I have not had time to shoot yet, so as to give you the opportunity to prove me wrong. All I ask is that you don't over heat her and please send her back clean, just like you would have received her. -------------------------------------------- Nothing like a trail of blood to find your way back home.

I took a serious look at it on a AR platform but never went beyond that due to the fact I would have to build it on a AR10 lower.
