SGraves155Sika from 2013
Hunted south of Ft. Smith, AR on Backbone Mountain Ranch east of Poteau, OK. He's got hogs, whitetails and exotics. I shot this nice sika from a stand one cold January morning.

bwanamrmDarn nice sika stag Steve. They look like miniature red stags!
On the plains of hesitation lie the bleached bones of ten thousand, who on the dawn of victory lay down their weary heads resting, and there resting, died.

JPKNice!
If we saw one like that in MD we would all have heart attacks!
Our sika strain is from one of the smaller Japanese Islands and they just don't grow that big. Anything over six points is very, very rare as well.
Funny, but even though they are smaller than our whitetails they are dominant over them.
Around here an "average" three or four year old eight pointer whitetail would go about 140-160lbs dressed. An older, really big buck might go over 200lbs dressed. The heaviest sika from MD that I have heard of was 140lbs dressed.

NakihunterJPK, Interesting you should say that the Sika dominate the larger whitetails. I understand that the Chital deer also dominate the whitetails in the US.
here in NZ the Sika was introduced in one area in the North Island in 1905 while the reds were introduced at least 40 years earlier and in many locations. On an average the red deer are at least 50% bigger. But the sika stag will chase a red stag off and take over the hinds. In the core sika areas we have had red hybrids over the years and the the top sika stags seem to be getting larger.

JPKWhat would a typical "nice" NZ sika weigh dressed?
Also, anyone know what a good TX sika weighs dressed?
Also, a mature trophy class MD sika stag is almost black. The darker the sika the older he is and the better top hamper he's likely to have as well. And they usually have pretty heavy manes, also thicker as they age.

Nakihunter http://www.poronui.com/home/hunting/sika-hunting/That is a huge NZ sika.
I would say an average mature 3+ year stag will weigh 100kg+ live. Slightly smaller than a Chital stag.

JPKHoly shamole, that sika is beyond huge! The weight is more than double the typical weight of our MD sika.
Our sika are also marsh deer, they love our native shotrt grass marshes and also invasive fragmite.
