Kamo GariAnn, did you mean you'd *cook* the flesh of the Gods? BITE YOUR TONGUE!

The larger of the two was auctioned off at Tsukiji, in Tokyo.
Little tired at present (work, not fishing), but will post a few lines about it at some point. Thanks for the nice comments. Big fun indeed.

DesertRamKG, you sure do well when it comes to "hunting" the ocean. Awesome pictures; I'm looking forward to more detail.

Oh my! I didn't know they were eaten raw! When I do prepare fish I very lightly cook it. Nothing worse than over-cooked dried out fish meat.

fantastic fish! a dream of mine... and i'd settle for a 10lb version!
so KG... you gonna call up Gray's taxidermy for a mount?

Gun Control - A theory espoused by some monumentally stupid people; who claim to believe, against all logic and common sense, that a violent predator who ignores the laws prohibiting them from robbing, raping, kidnapping, torturing and killing their fellow human beings will obey a law telling them that they cannot own a gun.

L. David KeithI bet that Tokyo fish brought some real coin. Congrats KG, love to hang into one someday. I love fresh tuna Sushi, sashimi or seared on the grill...it's all good!

Is everything political? I went fishing and posted a few pics. You don't like where I'm from? I couldn't care less. Deal with it. You're certainly not missed here.

DoublessKG, just a question: I thought it was illegal to sell a game fish caught unless it was off a commercial boat, and I also thought bluefins were a gamefish. Not throwing rocks, just asking because I am obviously wrong, based on your above post.
And an awesome bluefin, by the way! Maybe one day...

No problem, but what makes you assume the F/V I was on was *not* a commercial boat, I wonder? It was in fact a commercial boat, fishing commercially for market tuna. I guess I don't exactly understand the question...
There are recreational and commercial permits, and very specific rules for both. We know them to the letter. You better, in this game, as fines are painful at best, should anyone run afoul of the law.
Thanks, though.

They're on the small side. The larger of the two went ~320 in the round, but had good fat content, so made it on a plane to Tokyo. The smaller about 260, and was sold domestically.
Cheers,
KG

I knew Tuna got huge, but I thought 320 was a sizable fish!
Still haven't fished for them yet, I need to do it soon.

Our fish were only a few inches into legal market fish territory, at ~ 78". Here's the world record fish, at just about 3/4 of a TON.
http://www.bigmarinefish.com/p...luefin_tuna_pg4.htmlI have buddies who have taken fish to 1100 lbs. So, as stated, the 300 lb class giants are the wee ones pretty much, all things considered. That said, I'll take them--and bigger, naturally--all day long. Absolutely amazing creatures they are. Doesn't hurt that they provide some of the very best eating in the world to those like myself who are sushi/sashimi fanatics.
