It's not real...that story's been floating around the Internet for years, and it's not true. No fault to the hunter, either, someone else made the story up. The bear was a nice brown bear, but it wasn't 1600 lbs. and he really shot it with a .338, I believe. Just thought you'd like to know the real story.

This story is a GOOD example of much of the BULLSHIT that gets posted on the internet and in these forums. We live in an age of BS and hyperbole - books are being written now about how bad it's become. Here we have a nice hunting story jacked into a killer beast story...it'll never end.

i guess that is the GOOD thing about this forum we have thousands of eyes and ears that can filter the good and the bad. looking at the real photos i asumed it was true untill other proof put forward. but the story is real but has been altered. this guy did bag a monster brownie. i would give my left nut to have been able to bag this one Big Grin

The bear was large, but not a "world record 12 feet 6 inches high at the shoulder" and weighing "over one thousand six hundred pounds." The ursine bagged by Mr. Winnen measured 10 feet, 6 inches from nose to tail and its weight was estimated at between 1,000 to 1,200 pounds — an extraordinarily large bear for the Prince William Sound area (about double the average size), but not a world record.

Still, WOW!!!

Any way you cut it, it's an imprssive trophy. That article cirtulates very few months. And the .338 seemed to do the job just fine! Although having a .300 Mag nearby adds a little more safety...

Man! I haven't seen that for at least two weeks! Big Grin This seems to be making the rounds again. All in all, it is a nice bear.

mancannon, are you implying i purposefully wanted to misslead? the pics are real but the story was fudged when i found out the story was false i said o.k. it must be a lie but the real story is still impressive and the pics are real. i would love to have such a trophy...being a new guy i would try to make more friends than enemies. if you are not impressed with the bear, shoot a bigger one and post the pics. p.s. i am glad we at least share the same admiration of old teddy roo.
