......but the chances of that lion being 12 yrs old are VERY slim......it is NOT hard to say with a high degree of certainty that this lion is not 12(or even close).....What I do have a problem with is BS and that statement about that lion being 12 is BS. Felt obligated to point that out......Here is the rub. The lion is not 12 or even close.....But the chance of ever encoutering a 12 yr old male lion in the wild is slim enough and it would not look anything like this lion...esp the teeth.....But...he is not 12......But would explain why someone might believe that lion could be 12.....In parks...a few male lion live to the 10-12 year old range. And, 15 should be probably be considered a practical maximum.......How do you know he is at least 8? I am not arguing but if people are going to ages around...they should have some objective data to support them........My only complaint was that unrealistic ages (at least on the first) were being bantered about withOUT any basis........

You gotta be shitting me, Ya Lane, we get it, you win. You fucknuts would argue over who gets hung with the newer rope. Roll Eyes

Brad,
I have tried being nice to you but you are a moron...and a rude one at that. I like rudeness about as much as Captain Call did on Lonesome Dove...so...if you are going to call someone a rude name...man up and have balls enough to do it to their face...otherwise...STFU!

Really? Gent's, why not sign a liability release and meet up on a river bank and settle your little tiff.

People think alcohol makes 'em tough? The internet is the all time tough guy tool.

Carry on.

Lane,

I have been away from the thread for a little while and just got back. I see things are a little heated and I am not sure if this is a good time to ask so please don’t misinterpret. As I previously noted I am not an expert on judging/aging lion and do not have experience with them as many do other than having seen them a few times in the bush. I have not hunted them personally.

Have you hunted and killed many wild lions?
In what areas were you able to kill them?
Would you be willing to post their photos?
Do you know their exact ages?

Thanks for entertaining my questions. I realize they are of a personal/professional nature but they are not meant as an attack.

Best always,
Shawn

I would like to ad a question to this list,
How many lions have you personally observed in the wild (not in a park)?

No worries Shawn, Brad is a constant troll whom we must all put up with if we use this sight. I should put him on ignore.

Now...after answering your questions...I will say this. Almost NO PH has the expertise to age a post-mortem lion. And...every person who IS an expert on aging a post-mortem lion has NEVER shot one. And, nobody could shoot enough lions in a lifetime to make them an expert. The expertise on aging comes from learning criteria from known age lions that can be applied to dead lions. Then for the PH...learning to phenotypic criteria learned from that data to help them shoot only 6 and greater lion. Remember...as hunters...that is all we have to do.

Craig Packer & Paula White are friends as well as consulting experts. Karyl Whitman, Paul Trethowan, Colleen Begg, Rosemary Groom, and Luke Hunter (whom I consider friends as well but don't know them personally as well) are all on the LCTF team of experts that guide our opinions. We Aaron and I talk with these people regularly. If you ask Aaron the above questions...you will get vastly different answers yet we still render the same opinion.

ha, you beat me to it, so how many is quite a few? where and when? Maybe an easier place to start is how many times you have been to the continent of Africa, where, and how much time spent there. We know about your trip to Uganda and the 2 lions you took a pic of there...

Brad,

I am not an expert on lion hunting. I am not an expert on lion aging. I have never professed to be either and I don't play one on TV. I am a veterinarian and board certified veterinary surgeon. I am qualified to examine radiographs, animal body parts, and scientific data. I work with some who are experts in lion hunting, lion aging, and lion ecology in general. In regards to this lion...I can show you comments from those who have dedicated their lives to lion science and developing aging techniques for post-mortem lion (see names in previous post). One of my best friends in the world is a licensed PH in Zim & TZ. He has been licensed in Zim for 29 years...he shares our opinion and is a consulting member of LCTF. Another good friend and consultant of LCTF is a PH from Zim & TZ who is the manager of one of the larger Companies in TZ who specializes in lion hunting. Bwanamich also affiliated with TZ lion hunting is another LCTF consultant.

A lot of experience form hunting and science to reference there.

Quit making this about me and concentrate on the lion.

I have already stated that I am ready to back up my assertion that the lion in question is NOT 12. Shawn can observe and if I am incorrect...he can post it right here for all to see.

Get over you obscession with me Brad and do something contructive.

Forgot to add that Dr. Kevin "Doctari" Robertson with whom the LCTF also consults...shares the opinion voiced by me on this lion.

P.S. - Aaron Neilson is the LCTF member who is the expert on lion hunting. Ask him about his experience with lion hunting. I focus on the science.

Lane,
I think you are focusing on the wrong part of the story, I have never stated the lion was 12 or 2 for that matter. Your obsession over the age of this lion seems rediculous to me, I really do not care. Congrats to the hunter on a great lion, get over yourself. My forst post was highlighting your obsessive compulsive behaviour over this moot issue. Try to control yourself bro, it's one thing to turn the deadbolt back and forth 42 times when no one is watching, its a little different to go full retard in front of the whole forum. Just my $.02

Thanks for the psychological diagnosis Brad...where do I mail my 2 cents? But...the bill is kind of high in my opinion. Roll Eyes
