I have to say that this is the most beautiful Whelen I have ever seen. I would have to say it's my dream Whelen. If I had the money that is exactly how I would do it. Well honestly I have the money thanks to a decent job and no family, but I wouldn't be able to buy anything else for the rest of the year. It's a catch 22 anyway you look at it.

Shots good with 59 grains of RL-15 under a 250 grain speer. Got the load of the aliant web site. They have since taken it down. I am a little leary of it now and I have about 50 Rnd loaded.

I have been eyeballin a CDL in 35 Whelen. Don't know much bout them.
My question is...the CDL has a 1 in 16" twist is that gonna be a problem for heavier bullet?

Remington sells loaded ammo with 250gr. bullets so I would think that they would be stable in a 1:16 twist...My Ruger #1 came with a 1:12 twist and since I shoot cast boolits only I wish it had a 1:16 twist which is easier on cast...

In my rifles the 1 in 16 twist handles up to and including 250 gr. just fine (moa) after that I do not know. I do not have a need for heavier yet. Accuracy may decline with heavier bullets or it may not.

Go to Gunbroker 123799106 to find mine. Nice gun, but a LH Ruger .375 made it superfluous.

Okay,
Here's mine ... Eddystone with the smoothest re-bored barrel I've ever seen. I use her as a 'beater' rifle, the 4x Tasco will be replaced with either Leupold 2.5x or 4x eventually. I've considered tarting her up ... but sometimes it's more rewarding dancing with the ugly girls.
She'll have the stock 'water-proofed' and maybe some paint applied to protect her metal finish befor enext winter.
Cheers...
Con

Here's my Model B 35W. It was marked under the wood when the rebore was done; still says 8x60 on the barrel for some reason.

Double heat treat 03 receiver. Cartridges feed well and smoothly. Timney trigger with thumb safety. Douglas barrel 1:10 twist. Hand cut checkering. Mississippi gunsmith who built it around 1979 is no longer with us.

Most accurate load is 225 Sierra Spizter, 53.5 grains IMR 4064.

Kicks hard.

What amazing high end rifles displayed here in an amazingly good calibre! I just joined this forum a few days ago and will be known by some of you from other forums. I feel right at home here already so I thought I'd pipe in. I've been spreading the good word for many years bout the grand ole hunting 35s. All my rifles are hunters. None are as fine as the specimens pictured here so far. Presently I own five 35Whelens - one is an AI version. You can see em all here - http://35cal.com/loading.html
Here's a pic of my very rare unlisted factory issue Remington 7600 CARBINE.

I don't own a .35 Whelen but am debating on building either it or a .338-06. I doubt I can come up with a real need for either other than I want to have something larger than a .30 bore in my safe. I only hunt deer and bear in PA and am already well served with the rifles I own. My smith already has the reamer for the 35 and not the .338-06 so in that respect I lean to the 35.

This rifle would be built on a Rem700 action in a sporter weight rifle. Any pros or cons being I am a re loader?

Wow. Nice rifles guys. Love that stock Ozark.

Mine is undergoing a facelift. Nothing too fancy though, its a BRNO M-98 with a A&B bbl, American walnut stock, barrel band, ebony GC and forend tip. Ive got a Weaver 6X for it but I havent decided if I want to go with that or iron sights, maybe both. ?? Im planing on doing a classic oil finish on it.

Ill try to get pics up later.

Donald, In PA and NY the 35 Rem has always been a good performer on deer and bear .For something better you could go up to 358 Win with a shorter action, or to 35 Whelen with long action.
Either would be fine and get good use on bear .Top PA bear weight is 900 lbs .Average cubs per sow is increasing ,three, four and even five cubs is not unusual !! Have fun ! Big Grin

For you Whelen fans, Midway has a blem bullet sale going and you can get 100 Hornady (I believe) 250 grain Spire points for $28. and some of the polymer tipped lever gun stuff pretty cheap too.

Mine is not as pretty as many of those but it is kind of unique. A 1941 Model 70, converted to left handed and rebored to 35 Whelen. It works pretty well.

"...I advise the gun. While this gives a moderate exercise to the body, it gives boldness, enterprize, and independance to the mind. Games played with the ball and others of that nature, are too violent for the body and stamp no character on the mind. Let your gun therefore be the constant companion of your walks."
