Shut it down? Not hardly. It's a self generating concept re the DHI. It's not like we have to work at it, the stuff just happens, like it's already there subterranean, and just needs to be dug up, and wrung out - thoroughly. Big Grin

Just imagine a Jack Russell catching a rat, and the scene and action to ensue. Metaphorically, that's what we need to do with DHIs. Big Grin

Like the concept of a new barrel installation, and whether the gunsmith should be the first to fire it, or perhaps the first to test it, and that includes the definition of "test", such as test for function or accuracy or both, or alternatively whether that's all up to the customer.

When you melt down wheel weights for example you are just remelting. Much bandwidth has been used for people to tell how they "smelt" wheel weights. (Smelting being a mining process). Once melted you pour it into a mold of some sort--an ingot mold just costs a few bucks and lasts a lifetime. In cast bullets you will read gobs of posts as to someone using a muffin pan and all the details as to where they find mufin pans and what desirable features to look for in a muffin pan.

.223 vs 5.56mm chamber.

EVERYONE knows a bolt action .223 chambered rifle can't handle the same pressures as a semi-auto chambered in 5.56mm.

That's what we call hunting hard. I don't run a heater so it's especially hard.

Well I run a heater but my box blind is not insulated so it really doesn't get above about 65 degrees in there. That's still hunting hard, right?

That isn't a DHI, it is simply they way its done in Texas.

Calling it hunting on the otherhand is to me a DHI.

You book a DG safari through an agent recommended by no less than 5 AR African Forum bloggers. (After all, he runs magazine ads in all the rags and has a booth every year at SCI.) The outfit, the PH, the camp and the concession are all touted as "simply the best available on the market today."

You book your own flights, using three different airlines. (Saving $237.50 USD.)

Your flights and baggage are delayed, causing you to miss three days of hunting.

A different PH than the one you were promised and who looks to be about 19, collects you at the airport and tells you the air charter you paid for up front is down for maintenance. You then spend the next 9 hours dodging donkeys and warthogs in the black of night on your way to camp.

In conversation with the PH you learn he has never heard of your booking agent and has only talked to the outfitter once, over the phone. You further learn that the camp manager is the PH's uncle, and that the outfit for which he works just recently aquired the concession you will be hunting. You are the outfit's--and the PH's---first client.

The PH's girlfriend, BTW, is along for the trip. She looks about 15 and spends the entire 9 hour road trip cracking her gum and giggling.

On your fourth day in a camp you come down with a roaring case of the trots, causing you to soil several pairs of brand new Orvis safari shorts as well as your custom fitted $500 Russell PH boots. (The ones with the oh-so-soft leather soles.)

Two days later someone steals your Filson fedora and ticks have swarmed your scrotum like an Occupy Wall Street protest.

At the last hour of the last day you shoot an immature mongoose after spending the previous 12 days seeing absolutely no other game.

The mongoose turns out not to be on quota and is unimportable, but the game scout says he can "make a plan."

On the way home, you pick up a dose of the clap during your layover in Frankfurt.

Just who, exactly, is to blame for this mess, and how should it be resolved????????

Well lately we saw the 7 mag being compared to the .270. Another thread compares the 06 to the .270. Comparing a mag to a standard cal. just makes the .270 a legend rather than one heck of a cartridge. Comparing a .270 to a 30:06. Well, nuff said. The dead horse issues can be fun, I will admit.

I am Damned glad after reading this that mouthfulls of Bushmills Green label
has absolutely NO EFFECT what-so-ever,
on either my shiny new 24" widscreen monitor or my year old wireless keyboard....

though I am kinda bugged about losing that much good whiskey...

but what really bothers me is I can't stand the smell of glass cleaner (cleaning my monitor) at this ungodly hour while I wait for the Vicodin to kick in so I can sleep with my herniated disc...

My nominees for Dead Horse Topics.

The guy who interjects some weirdo cartridge
when the original poster is asking us to help him choose two relatively common and readily AVAILABLE cartridges...

Say... recommending 9.3xwhatever at ANY time for a north american shoot, while ignoring the fact that if a 9.3 is really better than a .358 that obviously a 3.75 is better than a .366
(what is so fucking magical about aht trivial 0.006"?)

Or the jokers who whine about rifle weight and advocate short actions and apropriate cartridges to fill them over a similar "long action" rifle that almost invariably feeds better all because of the difference in weight caused by a 0.40" "slice" through the magazine box that is in essence the difference between the two rifles.

PEople who whine about Remngton 700 rifles for whatever reason they cite though they have in all honesty NEVER owned one.

Recommending an obsolete cartridge that isn't widely available over a modern cartridge that IS available.... in a topic where the OP clearly states that they DO NOT reload, nor do they intend to....

This is usualy further aggrevated by the fact that ALL rifles that can be ordered in the "obsolete cartridge" are typically made in the WRONG (short) action length and generally throated "long" so that the bullets which MUST be seated deep to fit in the short action magazine box have a L-O-N-G jump to the rifling... ruining any hope of the accuracy that the "obsolete cartridge" is famous for... (specific example? 6.5x55 in a modern rifle when either the 260rem or 7mm08 is a better choice when REALITY is considered)

Oh, and a personal pet peeve, anyone who recommends a 243Win as a deer rifle for a beginner when it is the tool of an expert that require skill and talent to use correctly... especially when there ar better choices available.
