Has anyone used this ammo on game? I am thinking about taking the 286 grain Lapua Mega to Africa next summer.

The 286 gr Lapua Mega is all I'm using in my 9.3x62. I started with this bullet, thinking I would step up to something else later. I had some Lapua factory ammo, and wanted to handload something to shoot to the same point. Anyway, I used it to take a brown bear, and a friend did likewise. Both bears went down on the first shot, and didn't get up. They wallowed about a bit, so we both shot again to finish. My first shot went through the bear's shoulder, because I could see steam and mist coming out the other side. My friend says one of his rounds went completely through too. I'm completely satisfied with the Lapua Mega, and it's very accurate too. I just see no reason to change bullets. I solved that problem by building other 9.3 rifles, so I can try other bullets in them. I use the Norma bonded bullet in my 9.3x74R. I'm going to try some 250 gr in the 9.3 - 338. Probably starting with the Nosler ballistic tips, and swithching to the Accubond when they come out. The 9.3x57 is next year's project, but I'm probably going to try some of the Speer 270 gr in it. I want to try some of the Barnes, and the Swifts too, but my gun projects are stacking up. So little time. I haven't used the Lapua Mega but have used the Lapua Naturalis 286 grain bullet on nilgai in south Texas. Below on the right is the recovered bullet after impact on the shoulder of the nilgai. For comparison puposes the bullet is next to a Barnes XLC 400 grain .416 bullet and a Failsafe 300 grain .375. All are similar in make-up, for the most part a homogeneous monometal bullet (the Failsafe does have a lead core behind the partition). Result was a one shot kill on a tough 700 pound antelope. It was a strange mushroon, however. However, I was impressed with the performance of the bullet on the animal... it ran maybe 10 yards and toppled. Would use this bullet in Africa on large plains game. Yep, .375H&H 270gr Remi Soft Point is effective on "thin skined" game. Since, you're infatuated with Scandinavian 9,2x62 ammo may I suggest 18,5gm Sako Twinhead (Nosler Partition), or 18,5gm Norma 'Oryx'.

.366, It's a custom built by Mike Kizler out of California on a Brno action and English walnut stock in 9.3x62. Quarter rib and barrel stud swivel on a Krieger barrel. Built to model the African style Mauser, lightweight and fun to shoot! I don't get it out enough!
