Things are coming together at an accelerated paace. It is now time to send out test loads to various marksmen with good eyes, steady trigger fingers, smooth and crisp triggers, and very accurate rifles. Please , no odd ball barrel lengths. ~24" for standard burning caliber, and 25" - 26" for low expansion ratio calibers that use pwder slower than Norma MRP, H-4831, RL-22 (I know, I know).

The first test caliber will be 9.3x62 with 286 grain Nosler Partitions and North Fork 250 grains (a truly awesome bullet).

Please let me know the average accuracy at 100 yards or meters (specify). Velocity should be measured 10-12 feet from the muzzle (9 - 10 meters). Of course, I will send paper to record temperature, relative humidity, light brightness and angle in the sky. Wind velocity, direction and variability is likewise importante. Professional evaluation is nerve wracking, but ultimately it is very rewarding.

I will need every case back for evaluation. If the data is of good quality, I will send along a box of 20 cartridges once full production starts.

Cartridges ofver the course of this project will range from the 5.6x57 up to, and beyond, the 470 NE.

Danke Schoen,
Merci Beaucoup,
Thanks Pard,

JC,

Best of luck with the testing. Wish I could help out but I dare say you'll have a slew of volunteers right at your doorstep.

I do hope your general metric to Imperial conversions are a little more accurate than this one though

I'd be happy to help out with the 9.3x62, 9.3x64 and 9.3x74R as things progress for you.

I can even get cold weather testing done as this winter seems to be hanging on FOREVER up here.

You have my e mail address from prior contact - if not pm me and I'll give it to you again.

Mike

I'm not going broke fast enough as a doctor.
I'm starting an ammunition company.

The business plan is a sure ticket to failure; Use the best quality components made, put them together nice and straight and sell them for a fair price.

I give it six weeks, maybe seven.

John

Hey JCN, Sure is an "interesting" cartridge to begin an Ammo Company with. Will the second one be a Lebel? bewildered

I hope it does great for you.

I have some questions out of interest.

What pressure standards - CIP or SAAMI?

What tolerance used to account for temp, chamber, powder lot, idiocy etc?

Is it insurable?

You might find 24" barrels suprisingly rare in some of the cartridges.

BTW I think the 9.3x62 is an inspired choice.

Jean Charles, does this mean you are sending me some 9.3 x 62 to try in my Mauser?

I would volunteer for 9.3's, but my 9.3's aren't all that accurate. I get 3/4 inch groups rather than clover leafs, so I don't think that results I would report could be used as a reliable indication of anything.

Perhaps I can help with other calibers in the future.

Good luck!

Rusty,
Tip's rifles do shoot stright, don't they.

1894Mk2,

Pressure limits and testing protocol varies depending on whether SAAMI or CIP is the parent organization for a given cartridge. Both of those organizations have very specific protocols for QA testing of production lots of ammunition.

What I am doing here has not much to do with production and inspection techniques. This is basic research. I am gathering data from many different testers to confirm that a given load will be pretty damn accurate in a variety of firearms. This is all relativistic data, not absolute. Thus, I'm not too concerned about applying conversion factors to "correct" for this or that.

Insurable? Ha, not likely. If someone wants to sue me for their stupidity, they may end up owning an ammo company that I will ensure is leveraged up to it's ears.

Dan,

We will test some of the 470NE cartridges to confirm that they are indeed, "minute of elephant."
