Although I am a 9.3 advocate, there are already too many forums and a new one would not be a good idea IMO.

c'mon Dan, lighten up!
The 9,3 is not properly classified here. It is a DG-legal cartridge in Africa, and is the only one not in Big Bores. It seem neither fish nor fowl, but is a very suitable caliber (x62 or bigger case) for anything over 100 lbs on the planet. We were hoping you would represent us (pro bono, of course) when we take our case to the powers-that-be here next week.

Whether it is just trolling or not I would disagree!
There has been a big interest sparked in the 9,3 in Canada on the Gunnutz forum anyway. Two years ago you never heard of them but now there is a cult following!
If anything it seems as though the grand old calibers are coming back because alot of folks are seeing that speed doesn't really kill better.
I hope the 9,3 and alot of the other long neglected calibers make a strong comeback, they have stood the test of time, I wonder how many Ultra mags will be here in another 40 years.

So now off you go to find a field that is long enough that the bullets slows down to not destroy the better part of the animal! LOL

Put me down as one who learned his lesson. I use to want every case with a belt, no taper and 40 degree shoulders. Now I see the designers had it right, waaay back.

That'll be the day! As you know, I am not welcome here and I have been threatened with banishment a few times. So I doubt that I would ever be invited to be a moderator. And certainly not if the current group of moderators had any say in the matter! donttroll

Don't be too hard on yourself Dan, that's Vapo's job.

Seriously, I am beginning to respect your expertise quite a bit since you and Jeffe got off the twist thing.

Answer me one question, if you would...?

Do you consider the 9,3x62 a competent DG cartridge?

I ain't Dan, but it isn't suitable for use by a sport hunter on DG.

The 9.3 x 64 is entry level for that activity.

Then again I´ve never hunted buff Wink

Now you tell me. Why didn't you do that BEFORE I bought the rifle and dies, and about a thousand bullets, and a couple hundred cases and that PRVI ammunition and made several trips to the range load testing? I tell you what hoss; I am just going to pretend that I never read that and go ahead and hunt big game with it to spite you!
So there!

Do we need to PM Saeed on this? It looks like there are more than a few in this game. And maybe more that haven't sounded off. Make it a Large Medium Bore Forum, ala Podoro? Maybe.366 to .425? Have to get his book out, just put it back into the library last night. Packrattusnongratus

I love my 9,3x62 and it'll be the rifle they bury with me cause it'll handle what ever there is to shoot where ever I end up. Wink

BUT! There isn't enough space on the Internet for all the possible cartridge forums that the cults will want if Saeed and Don start doing individual forums. First the .45-70 crowd, then the 10.75 bunch, the .375 gang will pipe up, and think about all the RUM, RSAUM, WSM and WSSM herds out there! Eeker

Assumption #1: Good quality premium bullets are used.

Assumption #2: Proper shot placement is employed.

ANSWER TO QUESTION:

a. For leopard and lion, absolutely.

b. For buffalo, yes but be sure to get a good angle for that first shot to maximize damage to vital organs.

c. For hippo in the water and croc, no problem at all.

d. For hippo on land and elephant, yes, but again emphasizing good solids and good shot placement. An ele with a 9.3 through his forehead too high to hit the brain won't be slowed down in the least.

All that being said, I think that the difference between the 9.3 x 62 and 375 H&H is trivial. If you want a step up in power, go to a .416 or .458.

I´d say 500gr is spot on regarding the 9.3 as a DG round.

Has anyone tried the Woodleigh 320gr?

Much of what is posted here might also be true of bigger and more powerful rounds as well.

I'm not poo pooing the post....it's dead on but applicable to just about every cartridge known to man!

You can count the new guy on the block in on the 9.3 fan club. My CZ 62 is a blast to shot and i can shoot it all day with no pain. Those 250 noslers consistantly shoot 1 1/2 to 2.0 inch groops at 200 in the black and a shade over 2 inches high at 100.

Why not just change the forum definition of Big Bores to start at 9.3 and Medium Bores end at 358
