I found an average Model 70 pre 64 300 H&H. Guy wants $900. I have no idea what its worth on the market. Anybody got an idea? Thanks.

Sounds about right. I've seen average pre-64 300H&H's go from $750-$1100. Terry -------------------------------------------- Well, other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Personally I think the pre-64s are over priced as shooters. However they are what they are and you can get the $900 back from it and that's something you can't say about a new classic. /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// "Socialism is a philosophy of failure, the creed of ignorance, and the gospel of envy, its inherent virtue is the equal sharing of misery." Any pre '64 in a magnum will fetch close to a grand, standard calibres around $750.00, but condition dictates price. Look out for extra holes that Winchester didn't put there, i.e. subtract $100.00 for every "new" hole. I've seen "swiss cheese" receivers and tried to buy them cheap, and still the sellers wouldn't part with them for less than $400-, anyway they still own it! Best of Luck.

Ditto what Buckshot said. I have one and paid too much for it given the holes and costs to repair same. This locks me into the old side mount, or presents one UGLY rifle with a new style bridge mount. Fixing the holes is a job for a first class smith and reallly requires destruction of another old action to do it right according to some in the 'smith forum. Kudude

Lot of M-70 Winchesters in 300 H+H gotten pretty screwed up, from the likes of Griffin and Howe side mounts not properly installed. And being bored out for Weatherby or Ackley improved. Now if you find a good one, then grab it. It will prove even some of the late 1960 63 rifles are a dam sight better than what passes for rifles these days. Or you could take a new one and have a smith rebarrel to 300 H+H for you. I'm having one built right now, its going to be on a BRNO ZKK 602 action that use to be a 375 that a cam my way. Fool lopped off the barrel to 19 inches. Oh well, the action is sound and its going to make a good 300 Holland and Holland.

If its a 90% gun then the price is about right...I have shot a pre 64 M-70 300 H&H for years (since about 1954) and it has quite a track record...I shoot 200 and 220 gr. Noslers for the most part.... The action alone is worth $750 to $800. If the stock has the original butt plate (steel more valuable than composite) and is in decent condition, it can bring over $200. Stock is worth more if it is a monte carlo. The rifle should easily be worth $900 if it is in decent condition. The price of Pre-64's continues to climb. Based on supply, I don't see the prices dropping. Tim
