I'm putting together a 358 Norma Mag on a Montana action and need load data. I already loads Barnes 225 gr. TSX in my Whelen and have have good luck with them on elk as well as phenomenal accuracy, so I'll likely load them in the 358 NM. Anyone have any loads they'd share? Thanks, 35W "Only accurate rifles are interesting"- Col. Townsend Whelen

Here ya' go! http://www.norma.cc/sortimentladd.asp?Kaliber=358%20Norma%20Magnum&Lang=2 https://www.championshooters.com/VihtaVuori/rifle-reloading-data.html http://www.lapua.com/index.php?id=850 Note that unlike US companies, both the Finns and Swedes are not afraid to load a cartridge to its proper potential! With all of the customary cautions and disclaimers in place, the following has proven effective and safe in my Norma: Case-Norma Primer-Federal 215 Mag. Powder-Reloader-15@68 grs. Bullet- Barnes .225 gr. TSX OAL- 3.245†Crimped CP.

Excellent! I just bought 5 lbs. of Re-15 and was hoping I could find a load using it. Have you chronographed this load? 35W "Only accurate rifles are interesting"- Col. Townsend Whelen

I just knew that you would ask that question. I have only done a safety check with my chronograph and have not done a complete string analysis with this load. However, it was shooting at 2800 ft/sec plus some change and I felt it was in the “safe zone.†Because I knew that I would be able to kill any elk I hit with this set-up, I spent my time punching paper and pounding gongs with this load. For what it is worth, I have developed a practice load for my Big Swede that saves me a little money and performs on paper like my TSX load. Case-Norma Primer-CCI-250 Mag. Powder-Reloader-15@68 grs. Bullet-Sierra .225gr. (#2850) OAL 3.195†Average Muzzle Vel. - 2816 ft. /sec. CP.

CP- While I don't have any loads for the TSX, I do have a couple for the Nosler 225 Partition. I also tried R 15 with good results but my best 225 load came with H 4895 (69.5 gr)2950 fps. This is a MAX load in my Sako 23" barrel. Also good are VV150, H414 and H4350. I think you'll find that H4350 gives better loading density than IMR 4350. This will matter when you get to heavier bullets with slower powders. FWIW- 75.5 H4350 250 Nosler/ 2820 fps, 76 gr R-19/2710 fps 280 Swift. All MOA or better. Hope this helps

'Preciate the help. I'd kind of set 2800 fps with the 225 gr. TSX as my goal. I figured at that velocity there wasn't an elk in the world that could stand that. I already know from experience that the 225 gr. TSX will shoot almost completely lengthwise through a large bull with a muzzle velocity approaching 2700 fps, so 2800~ ought to be icing on the cake. I also have a jug of surplus 4895, so I may try it too. Thanks for all the help. Now, if they'll just get finished with the rifle so i can start loading/testing. 35W "Only accurate rifles are interesting"- Col. Townsend Whelen

Sbsmith, I am running H4350 in my .300 Win. Mag. and .338 Win. Mag., and I also believe it would work well in my Swede. I have tried IMR 4895 and IMR 4350 under NPs in my Norma and they shot very well. Although I am a NP shooter, I don’t like running a bullet in the field in my Norma that does not have a crimping grove because my rifle is relatively light and heavy recoiling. Thanks for information. CP.
