I think these were made by FN/Browning. They were limited and more than a few were customized to 405 wins.

The 40 percent condition has me scared, but if I wanted an 1895 to build on (say a 35 Whelen) or were not afraid to have it cleaned up. I would jump like a chicken on a Junebug at 800ish dollars.

There was an earlier run of Browning marked 1895s in 1984. Those rifkes were chambered on 30/06 being 6,000 units and 30/40 2,000 units. These rifles do not have “safeties” just the hammer safety notch.

I do not know how many were made in the 1998 run. I did not know they made a “slab side version in 1998. The 1984 rifles are not slab sided. By slab side, you mean the flat action with one piece lever?

Sorry for the typo, the 30-40 is made in 1898. I can also acquire a modern 1895 in 405 Win in a take down version. I am eager for both.

Just makes since. As long as it is just finish wear, I would not be bothered by 40 percent on a Gen1/flat sided rifle.

It shoots and has been tested but I have not done any accuracy tests. I have a preference for the flat side. The serial number is in the low triple digits which I think adds value as well as not being a “Firearm” being made in 1898.
