Remington 760 Pump in 9.3 x 62????
Admit it dudes,
You want one. You will buy one when I build it.

I rebarreled my 760 to 338/06. It works & shoots great.

338/06 with a shorty tube and a ghost ring and fiber optic front would/could certainly entise me...

Good luck on your project!

Somehow I ended up with two 7600 pumps in 35 Whelen and did not need them so put an add in the Anch paper and both went the first day and I could have sold another half dozen. The 9.3x62 would be a great round for pump gun fans.

i love my the 30-06 rem pump...

i think the 9,3x62 would be an awesome gun and a true one gun one world gun in a quick follow up rig.

not fancy, but a great working "meat/defense" gun
someone here in australia has one...i think actualy a couple people here have them. good luck!

I have a 7600 that I rebored to 338-06.
It isn't a tack driver, but it is consistently accurate with anything you put through it.

I built it for my dad who shoots left handed. He has successfully used his 760 pump in 270 for close to 40 years. No way to count all the critters he's shot with that gun.

I have a hunting peep with fiber optic sight on it most of the time. Put a scope on for my Dad when he has an elk tag.

Pretty neat rifle.

Sounds like a plan! I have a spare carbine barrel in 270 that I keep thinking ought to be a 9.3 or .400 something.

For dangerous game I personally would prefer a proven, well used pump Rem in 35 Whelen or 9.3x62 to a M-700 in the same calibers or even the 375 H&H.

Phil-that is one of the more interesting comments I've ever seen on the net and one that I concur with.

I do a fair bit of guiding and bruins down here are by far my fav. I in no way have experience that even remotely resembles yours.

That said a couple of years back I had a blackie get after me at 9', I sorted him out but the whole affair made me do some hard thinking (always a dangerous thing for me...grins).

And that thoughts during the cold long winter evolved around a bruin (blackie) stopper for my working gun down here.

The 760 in a 06 was all that came to my mind besides old 70/375. The idea of a 338/06 in the gun sure did appeal to me and the 35 or 9.3 would be awesome for sure.

I have a wonderful mtn rifle (G33/40) in a 338/06 and so that is what got me looking that way with a 760.

Thanks for your usual wonderful insight!

I've taken to carrying a chopped (barrel shortened) 35 Whelen 7600 with large apeture peep and fiber optic front while fishing AK penninsula rivers that are popular with bears (like the Kejulik and King Salmon). It handles as nice as a sawed off 12 gauge, and is actually pretty accurate. I safely carry the chamber clear (I fall more often than I shoot), and figure I can rack a round in much faster than with a bolt rifle, and sometimes those sorts of bear surprise things happen very fast. Thankfully, I've not yet actually had to shoot one yet, although I've put a couple "across the bows" of singularly obstreporous critters. A 250 gr .358 NF should do the job (if I do mine) but a 286 gr .366 would do even better!

I want one of these- let me know how it turns out. Is the barrel diameter big enough?

I forgot to mention that I'll order mine without the Jerry Garcia stuff- music is one thing, and rifles another......

I have seen M-700 extractors pull thru rims, leaving the shell in the chamber, and,(not counting the rifle my daughter found that the bolt handle came off of), twice seen bolt handles seperate from the bolt on hunts. I have also seen rust lock up a few M-700 triggers on wet hunts. They are not stainless. Neither are the ejector or extractor on stainless rifles.

to be fair, there are an awfully lot of M-700's out there and they usually work as designed but they are not my first choice, nor second or third, for a serious using rifle.

the slide action remmies are built for LOWER pressure rounds that most persons load the 9,3x62 to. That is, you'll at least need a "small base" die for that, and you WILL get sticky loads...

35whelen, shoot federal loads!!

I agree that you can't load a 760 to bolt gun pressures or things will start getting sticky. My 760 was a 30-06 Ackley for the last 30+ years then was reborn as a 338/06 earlier this year. I have never used 30-06 Imp. small based dies ( don't think they even make them ) & I use plain old Redding 338/06 dies now. Never have had any problems with either calibers. That pump functions slicker than snot.

I'm kind of with interboat. Might as well go ahead and gold plate it, checker the stock in a basket weave pattern and get a black patent leather sling for it. One in 338-06 sounds cool though.

Bwana-be the difference is in the locking lugs. The 760 has three rows of small lugs for a total of 11. The newer 7600 has just 3 lugs.
