What say you? A necked up 308, no other changes. How do the bullets fly from light weight to 286gr.?
I am back from a long Hiatus... or whatever.
Take care.

boom stickjeffeosso said it all...that small of a case wont give functional impact velocities for most bullets...35 is max bore but if it floats yer boat enough..cool.
the 308 and the 165 gr bullet is the best match...so add over a hundred grains and well you guessed it underbore
i'll be the last one to call someone elses wildcat idea crazy

now 411 pistol bullets on the 308 or 284 case....

GerardEarlier this year a man contacted us with a request for a short 9.3 bullet. He bought a semi finished project that is a 250Sav necked up to 9.3. We made a 195gr HV bullet that works in all 9.3s and, in his low speed application, expands completely at 1400fps. In a 9.3x62 it runs out of steam at about 300 / 320 yds due to the low BC but it gets the job done inside that range. I am waiting for him to come back with field results.

Rick RTez,
The local Gander Mtn had two rifles chambered in .338Federal, but no ammo or dies. One of the gents at Douglas Barrels was going to make himself a rifle in that flavor but got sidetracked with a Christmas rifle for a relative, so I don't think he's made it past the planning stage.
I still haven't seen a round of factory ammo for it, if it's going to be popular they'd better get it up and running by next deer season or some other WunderBlaster will grab the spotlight.

taylorce1Read an old article in Hand loader Magazine about a 9.3 BS. Based of a .350 Rem Mag case shot 286 grain bullets about 2400 fps and worked in short actions. Redding has the dies listed and sounded like a pretty easy to load rifle. The said it was about like reloading a .308 it like pretty much all medium burning powders and with about on 10 fps difference in MV between most powders. 9.3 isn't my flavor but sounded like a pretty good rifle for short to medium ranges.
Rick R, I've seen the 338 Federal ammo and it is running about $52 a box. I wouldn't even bother with buying factory stuff and just go straight to the loading bench. Midway has the dies and with the amount of .308 brass out there, a person should be up and shooting in no time.

Why not a 9.3 short Lazz? It'll be better yet and perfect length.

packrattusnongratusSmallfry do it if you wish to. Maybe call it the "366 Smallfry" or the "9.308".

smallfryI have mixed feelings about med bores that are below 375 and above 308 and I believe that Jeffe is right... the .358 is about max you want to go in the 308.
