On page 33 of the latest Guns & Ammo, the statement is made that "Remington's Model 798($648 to $1,040) - now manufactured in the U.S. - is available......."

I lurk here a lot and have seen some conversation about this gun but the G&A statement is the first I've heard that the gun is now U.S. manufactured. Have I missed something? Anyone know anything about this?

It may be stocked here but it's not made here.....as a matter of fact it looks like it was stocked by beavers and not humans.....anyone could ddo better than these rifles exhibit.

As I've said before, here and on other sites, I picked one up once and put it down so fast I didn't leave any fingerprints. Smiler

Wood work was done by a blind man (or beaver?) and the metal was poorly finished.

The Remington web page, http://www.remington.com/products/firearms/centerfire_rifles/model_798.asp only claims that the stock is American made.

The writers for Guns and Ammo are such shills for the firearms industry, Are such shills for the firearms industry, it is probable that in their exuberance to shill, they stretched the definition of “American made†somewhat.

Too bad no American manufacturer ever made a production M98. Best darn action ever designed.

As far as I'm concerned Guns and Ammo (and others) is nothing more than a monthly advertising flyer for the US firearms industry. And those of us who buy these rags are paying to read this advertising.

Remington rep at local Bi-Mart the other day told me that the action are imported but barreled and stocked in USA but not "made" but assembled.

The one I saw the other day had a barrel identically marked as the CD models.....and to me this means that the barrels are not made here either.....I strongly suspect that Remington is buying barreled actions.....stocking them here.

I've only seen one from Remington.....so...

The action was much rougher and the guide lug showed signs of not being finished.....very rough on one side.

The wood-metal fit was so bad that I only spent a little time looking at the metal....but of what I saw it wasn't as good as the two CD specimens I had....and one still have.

I have seen alot of the remington 798s.
Most I agree are not worthy of the zastava interarms. And the stocks are just treible.
I have seen a couple that had decent bluing and were (in my opinion) worth the price. But the ones I saw yesterday were rough i simply would not want one.
