I have a nice 7mmMag sitting around. Before I make a fool of myself with the gunsmith, can I rechamber it to 9.3x62? Can the same barrel be used?

Very basic question and I apologise if the answer is obvious, but any input is apreciated.

I assume this 7mmMag is a bolt-action rifle?
In short, it won’t make a very good platform for your proposed conversion.

1. You’ve got a magnum bolt face on the 7mmRM (about .534â€). The 9.3x62 takes a standard bolt face, like a 30-06 (.473â€).
2. 7mm is .284 caliber. 9.3mm is .366 caliber. No, you can’t use the same barrel, unless you were perhaps considering having it re-bored?

If you want to convert a rifle to 9.3x62, find a 30-06. It’s a much better platform to start with.

if it's truly a 9.3 X 62 that you want you can just trade rifles for one. Look to CZ

if it that big bullet power you want your gun (assuming a bolt) can be rebarreled to .375 Taylor or .358 Norma.

Now that's serious power.

Na, I have 2 9.3x62s already, one Blaser and one CZ. I just like the mauser action on the 7mmMag and was hoping to put it to better use.

Thanks for the input.

It would make a nice 404 Jeffrey with some feed work. Or, you could make it into any of the "Taylor" cartridges or even some of the AR rounds.

The 7mm mag bolt face will have been made to accomodate a .532 dia double flange/belt, the 9.3x64 is only .496
The wildcat 9.3Alaska would be fine.

i second the 375 ruger...

no boltface mods and barrel companies will fall over themselves to make barrels for the infux or rugerites. it will be a good source of bizz for them.

.358 Norma Magnum could be a suitable compromise. Right measures and a lot of power.

plenty here to read up on...just do a search. but be one step ahead and wait to do a 416-375 ruger!!! same work as 416 taylor but a no compromise cart to be. same boltface but able to do 400@ 2400 without high preasure and you would have the coolest new wildcat. the diff. between a volkswagen big bore and a bmw! or if you are not into european cars...pinto and mustang!
