Hello everyone. I have a chance to buy the above mentioned cal. in a sporterized mauser. I know you guys like the 9.3x62 and was wondering how the x57 fares. Also if it doesn't stack up; would it be easy to rechamber to a x62. thanks turfman. | ||

TurfMan, I see you are in NJ. Did you buy one of the Swedish Mausers imported by SARCO? Many of the 9.3x57's were built on the 94/96 small ring actions. Most smiths will advise not to do the conversion to 9.3x62 using this action, although I have heard that this action was tested to the same pressures as the 98. I am reloading 250gr Nosler Ballistic Tips with a starting load of 43gr of 3031. I will try 4895 next. If your rifle is a 98, go for the 62. If it's a small ring, leave it a 57. Whatever you use the 358 Win for, the 9.3x57 will do as good or maybe a touch better. Bob | |||

thanks guys: 9.3x62: I have not seen any factory listings for it. Can 8mm be necked up to accomidate it; or is there a source for brass. Also do you think 2300-2400fps with a 250grn bullet is reachable. I have a whelen and don't really need the rifle, but i really don't need 90% of the toys I have either. Bartsche:  Yea tend to forget things like that, "often".VFR: I just got off of the phone with the guy. Yes he picked it up from Sarco last year. The peice is real nice. Not a presentation peice; but the lines and fit of the stock have drawn me to it. He is selling it because he does not reload. So I guess it is a 94/96 small ring. If it will kill out to 150yds( and I'm guessing it will ); I think I'll pick it up. BTW the price is $250. Thanks for the info. turfman | |||

I believe Norma makes 2 factory loads for it. Norma brass is available from midwaysusa.com. It's pricey, but 100 pieces will last you forever; Norma brass is top notch. Depending on the rifle and barrel length, I'd expect 2300-2400 fps with a 250 gr. would be a reasonable max. | ||

Turf Man If you have the time, you can make brass out of 8mm Mauser by just running it through your 9.3x57 full length dies and trimming. A little more trouble making them from '06 brass as you have to cut, trim, resize and fireform. Hornady makes the dies for about $50. MidwayUSA stocks them. Is the rifle in question a Husqvarna? 9.3x62: The rifle is a husky and the barrel is 22". It looks to be in good shape; well the guy I'm getting it off of shot it with no problems. thanks. turfman | |||

The 9x57 is not the same as 9.3x57. Bullet size is .356 for the 9x57 and .366 for the 9.3 x57. I also have one of these husky rifles, and I am in the process of makeing ammo for it. Still trying to get my new set up fixed like I like it. I am going to call RCBS or Hornady and see if they put the tapered expander ball in the 9.3x57 forming die. I have heard from others on this board that you need a to work your way up to 9.3 with the 8mm brass by going -->.338 --> .358 and then you can form with the 9.3 die. But this seems like it could be avoided with a good expander. You have to buy coustom dies anyway, might be worth it to see if they could make a good tapered expander to go with them. I just went through all this confusion with the dies. Redding lists a 9 and a 9.3x57. The 9 is a stocked item and the 9.3 is a custom order. The Redding 9.3x57 (9mm Mauser) listing in the Midway catalogue on page 74 is actually 9x57. I had a set and returned them. Go figure. Anyway, the Hornady die set has a tapered expander and works fine necking up 8mm Mauser in one step. No need to fool around with 338/358 expanders. When making brass from '06, it is necessary use the intermediary expanders. VFR | |||

Well. I bought it. Thanks for all the advice guys; I really appreciate it. Also I'm going up to sarco today. I was on their website last night and it seems they have a new shipment of these rifles as well as millitary 96's. There are a few in 9.3x62. So we'll see what happens.  thanks again. turfman. | |||

Fritz, I recently purchased one of your Husqvarna M46's in 9.3x57. The metal work and inletting are very nice. The trigger is two stage with a smooth, light break and the bbl band sling swivel adds a bit of class. The receiver has never been drilled for a scope and the stock, although plain walnut, has a long length of pull and fits me perfectly. Points like my Fox 20ga. Thanks for such quality workmanship. Hejsan Fortunately, I'm in Ume� and have had no problems with my gun licences. In fact, I have 3 class 1 rifles alone... 7mm Rem Mag, .358 Norma Mag, .375 H&H Mag It really is sad to see great deals on rifles, and not be able to grab them because of the licence problem.  jpb | |||
